MechEng Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 When we think of fast bowlers, we think of athletes with great physiques steaming in like a bullet train and bowling scorchers. But when we think of spinners, all we visualize is a guy with ordinary physique taking 4 steps and bowling a ball at 90 kph. Not that I'm disrespecting spinners, but whenever we fans involve in cricket discussions, fast bowling excites us but spinners hardly do. And hey, it's my first time at ICF!
Utalk Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Welcome to ICF mate. On topic I disagree with you. I loved nothing more in cricket then Warne coming from 4 paces and landing those drifting in leg breaks on the leg stump and hitting off stump or Mushi jumping up and down and bamboozling batsmen with his lethal googly. Yes a fast bowler steaming and shattering them stumps like Donald or Waqar was a great sight but spinners too are a joy to watch.
MIMI Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 These days spinners are steaming in to bowl their quicker ones like afridi, sameuls.but fast bowlers on the other hand being influenced by t20's more often than not are bowling slower ones. Both the arts are in decline
thongale Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Fast bowling has its macho charachteristics with it.
King Khan Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Well performing batsmen are the real sexy part of this game. A strength that is mandatory for those limited over games. Unless you are refering 'sexy' with physical height of those phast bowlers, they all meant to get beaten by batsmen. Dissapointment is the common photoshot for bowlers, they are allways less paid loosers. And with argument for spinner are sexy?! ah.. never, they are mosty retard for physical imbalace with others & in mentality with mostly got successful thru unorthodox skill.
vamos_rafa Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Well if you are SK Warne, then it's the sexiest and the coolest thing in cricket. On the OP, maybe and just maybe, Fast bowling has that sense of raw aggression and stealth while spin bowling is more associated with craft and guile. Kumble was one of the few spinners who had that attitude of a fast bowler but it's more guile/craft and skill.

There have been some comments like "Viv played Imran and Lillee like spinners." or "If you can't bowl fast, become a spinner." which tends to show that fast bowling is always the first priority and spin bowling comes second every time.
Crookbond Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Before Shane Warne Sire ... Before Shane Keith Warne.
Clarke Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 From my limited reading, spin was associated with mystique and guile. Aren't those 'sexy' ? Isn't watching an in form Swann bowl a joy as much as watching Steyn bowl ? Dare i say, its even more fun with the lack of awesome spinners post Warne/Murali.
MCcricket Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 A fast bowler in cricket normally is the biggest, strongest, broad shouldered athlete in the team, most fast bowlers are not shy and can have a bit more personality then most spinners.Fast bowlers like the forwards in soccer get more attention, spinners like chess players most are not considered sexy, although gimme Warne, Saqlain, Qadir, Chandra any day. Like the changes that have happened with faster bowlers for them to be more effective and t20 cricket, scramble seam, reverse swing, yorkers, slow ball variations even spin art has to evolve as with technology and dead wickets, a traditional spinner who doesn't have too many variations or cannot spin the ball A LONG WAY or flight will not be as successful as before, it looks like bowlers who have a mystery attached to their art are more successful these days, AS BATTERS ARE A LOT MORE AGGRESSIVE.
thongale Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 It comes in personality I would think. Spinners tend to be like surgeons in cricketing terms. Faster men are butchers. It's a personality trait I'd think. I my self, is a spinner, but I was as nasty as any one in my team when it comes to sledging. I was a bigger ***** than any fast bowler in my team. But the difference was that while faster bowlers planned an over, I planned a spell ball by ball.
bajrang Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 DAT HAIR!!! i like how almost every phaast bowler from pakistan keeps long hair in attempt to look sexy, look like a wild stallion galloping with bouncy hair, ala imran khan but end up looking like a khusra running away from a dog. amir and asif were the last two with serious fail of this epic imran hair. he made fast bowling sexy.
