Raina is another Yuvraj singh for us, hero in One Days and not considered altogether when it comes to tests because of his own doing

Yeah his ethic and attitude is really visible about how he is still a joke against the short ball despite vowing to work on it 4 years back.

Raina is a sincere and hardworking guy. One should never doubt that. Unlike someone like Rohit Sharma' date=' he is never casual in his approach. He simply lacks the technique.[/quote'] i think he is gonna surprise us all and first will do gr8 in odis and then will make come back to tests .. he wants to improve and he has all the talent just needs to accept his problem and work on it wasnt he going to australia or something for that?

If Amla can become one of the better test batsmen and how bad he looked in test's initially ,surely we cannot write of Raina, good thing for him is next couple of years many spots will be vacated, if he is smart this is the moment for him, Laxman, Dravid, Tendulkar, Dhoni, Yuvraj, so many spots up for grabs. If Ganguly can score runs in test's, Gower , and so many others who had to find a way but had talent , he can make it thru strength of mind, effort.

So, the batsman who averaged 13 in last series was dropped for Australia tour and now suddenly he is good enough to play in the team. What a waste of a spot in the team. It would have better to give Laxman a proper fairwell instead of playing a proven failure.

[asterix] Indian team has become a Chennai fiefdom. [/asterix] How difficult is it for the selectors to differentiate between a proven Test failure and someone who hasn't played a single test match!

he's just 25.. can improve
Yes and by the time he improves India would have already spent more than a decade without decent no 6 batsman. He struggles against short balls and spin. What's the point of playing him the team. If this track is spinner friendly then I won't be surprised to see him failing against spinners. Otherwise be prepared to see runs after our batsman post 300 on the board.

Rahane must be wondering what does he need to get a spot in the 11. Even if Raina goes on to do well in tests, this decision looks completely biased. Hasn't done anything since losing his test spot and doesn't even deserve to be in the 15.

+1. If Raina was considered to be a test prospect then why wasn't he playing in Australia. He is getting chances only on the basis of his LOI performances which is not good for the team. Rahane should have been part of the playing XI.

Rahane is really been kept waiting now. Just don't understand the rationale behind the decision. I still feel, get Sehwag down the order and get Rahane at the top of the order. Sehwag is far far better than Raina at #6.

I don't think he has the temperament to play test cricket. The way he plays fast bowlers is really not good to look at and doesn't instill much confidence. He hangs on the back foot expecting bouncers and that's why looks uncomfortable against over pitched deliveries as he is not able to come forward. He may score some runs in sub continental conditions but he doesn't look like to hold that number 6 position for long. He really needs to work hard on his technique not only against short stuff but overall if he wants to be known as a good test player.
