Predictable for large parts, and the sub plots don't tie in well with the main theme, but Ranbir Kapoor proves his mettle. He's here for the long haul. Ranbir Kapoor is easily Bollywood's finest actor now. PC wasn't all that convincing. I'm sure there trying to essay the role of an autistic person involves more than biting your lip 5 times in a span of 30 seconds. Watching the movie has added Darjeeling to my list of 'to visit' places. Seems like a wonderful place. Truly. I watched Rockstar. If Ranbir Kapoor is 'easily Bollywood's finest' as you claim, then the overall crop of actors does not look that promising. Not to imply that he was acted badly or anything (I thought he single-handedly carried the movie on his shoulder, but the female lead RUINED it), but I did not leave the theater thinking 'Boy, this dude can act!'. Maybe his acting has gotten even better since?

Acting is a director's medium..an actor's performance depends on the director and besides you cannot really grade a performance since it is so subjective Oh yeah she can say anything she wants. Mariyam's reviews are always subjective. Take it with a pinch.. no.. bucket of salt.

Bipasha Basu came on different credentials than acting when she started out. But she is doing a decent job in acting. Same goes with past actors like Parveen Babi , Zeenat Aman. Only exception is Hemamalini. She retired as the only superstar who could NOT act at all. May be in one Gulzar movie (Kinara) she did a decent job. They tend to learn on the job and season out. Arjun Rampal is another example.

Ram, you do know that I generally hold your opinion in high esteem. :icflove: More so if we are discussing irrelevant topics like cricket line ups, politics, academics and pedagogy in contemporary India and global warming. However, it is difficult to take your views on an important topic like Bollywood seriously. For a person (you) who has grown up on a staple diet of Kollywood/ God'sownwood/ Thalaviarwood or whatever your substandard film industry is called, it is quite difficult to appreciate and comprehend completely the richness of storytelling and acting that is a part and parcel of every Bollywood movie. A person who eulogizes Rajni's blase and robotic (pun intended) approach to acting can never appreciate the finer aspects of essaying a character. You see, in Bollywood we don't have all these larger than life characters. We keep it real.

I agree on PC though , that role had lot of potential ..bit of a let down . Other thing was the makeup done for these guys when they grow old ..all of them looked scary , with some knid of shiny white thing painted on their faces

The most generous characterization of Rajni as an actor is the word 'O.K'. But the fact is, its never been about his acting skills. He's an unbelievable entertainer beyond par.

Ranbir is superb, PC has done much better than she usually does, though again, they should get someone who can match Ranbir in acting - may be Konkana would have been a better choice. It's a typical director's movie and progresses scene by scene rather than with a very flowing and captivating story. And some of these scenes are quite capable of impressing. Illena was nothing special, but I fell in love with her, at least till Jabtak hai jaan releases and I fall in love with Katrina all over again.

PC did a great job herself.. Gals here talking either out of jealousy or trying to be funny.. That new gal is gud to watch as well!!
