Does the current Eng-Sa series show how badly India played?

Looking at the way Petersen, Amla and Smith batted in this series, they did nothing special apart from precise footwork and sensible strokeplay. Had India batted this way last year, we would have 100% drew the series if not won...... Or maybe, Broad, Anderson and Bresnan have lost pace which makes their bowling easy to play?

Lack of intent, and more importantly lack of concentration. But having said that, English bowlers on average were bowling 5-6 mph quicker than in this SA series.

Every series played in England in 2011-2012 will tell how badly India played. :dontknow: SL managed to draw 2 matches there, WI managed to draw 1 and SA beat them in a match. Dilshan batted better than whole Indian team (except Dravid).

I think the series vs Aus was more embarrassing. The current Aus team isn't half as good as the legendary Australian team but we lost 4-0 with full strength and only 1 century in whole series.

Why comparing SA.. just compare India on the last tour with India on earlier tours you could see that was a horrible tour. Compare how guys like Prasanna jayawardane, Samuels batted there. Our own Dravid showed us. But one of the biggest disadvantage was India did not have the right XI from the first match. Players joined midway through. Players got injured.. It was not a set team.

Ind played as poorly in Eng as any team in recent memory on any tour. Barely made 300 runs per innings while conceding heavy big leads. Apart from Dravid's runs it was a disaster in every way.

If only WI had had Gayle they would not have lost in England too. SL played well there except one innings. Our team and Padosis were the worst.. Atleast they won a test.

At least padosis did well in bowling and didn't allow England to cross 400 more than 1 time in the series. Indian team failed miserably in all departments. Batting, bowling, fielding, fitness.

Batting' date=' bowling, fielding, fitness.[/quote'] the padosis not only won a test vs england they drew the test series vs australia and won the limited over series vs them :--D no but seriously guys the conditions were a lot more difficult for batting when india and pakistan toured , remember the aussie side were bowled out for 88 against pakistan at headingley and england also collapsed vs pakistan a few times , similarly praveen kumar was swinging the ball yards , so i certainly believe that conditions were slightly different .

No. But the WI series in England definitely did. SA are far superior team so I expect them to play better than us. BUT WI outperformed India in every dept.

Just look at Dravid, why do you need to look at anyone else to see how rest of batsmen failed.

You cannot compare two series and say how badly Indian team played. Conditions change, intensity change and that is the difference. I can see how lackluster England bowling has looked this summer in comparison to against us from ball one. Yes, our team did not play up to our potential but the same team compete hard against SA 6 months back and was even in position to win the test series.

Looking atSA bat in this (Headingly) test, one wonders if India will ever match up in test cricket in future. There were times when the ball was doing all sorts of things and the Saffers just kept plodding on and hangining in. When after a while the ball got older and the bowlers started tiring they started scoring runs. Who in the Indian team has that kind of patience and the self control not to flash at something outside the off stump?
