Venezuela is nowhere as a major market to cosmetics. The top 3 markets are the USA, Germany and Japan, and they are considered matured/saturated markets and account for nearly 40% of the overall market. Your article talks of a per capita share of 9.3% for Venezuela, but that is a useless statistic for a marketer. When the overall market itself hasn't been developed or lucrative enough, per capita figures make no sense. I'm sure Hong Kong or Monaco have better per capita usage than Venezuela. Among the emerging markets- BRIMC (Brazil, Russia, India, Mexico and China) account for ~53% of the growth in the market. Venezuela is not even in the next 12 top growing Cosmetic markets. This data pretty much rubbishes the claim that Venezuela is a major market for Cosmetics or even a major emerging market for Cosmetics. But, all this is moot. If you come up with a hypothesis, like in this case you said that " As if these Miss World competitions are entirely objective. They only reflect the major cosmetics markets in the world. So it's ultimately a competition between cosmetic markets and not beauties." the onus is on you to prove your claims and not on others to prove them false. That is how it generally works. First, Loreal report is from 2007. Two, Loreal has a conflict of interest - I am not sure where the objective part comes here. Keep trying!
