Graham Gooch played till the age of 42 . Jayasuriya also played till 42 and made century at the age of 41.Look at the support Ponting is receiving from the selectors and coach Mickey Arthur till next year ashes series. We in India always need quick fix and do not give leverage to out of form veteran like Tendulkar. Shame on newspaper like TOI which pulls Tendulkar down. Tendulkar should play till Ponting and Kallis retires.

Actually, you can post pics of Kapil, Gavaskar, Manjrekar, Mongia, Jadeja and even the likes of Viv Richards, Curtly Ambrose, Walsh, Imran Khan, Mark Taylor, Carl Hooper, etc. The list of players Sachin has outlasted is long. The list of ATGs he has played with and who have retired in his lifetime is very long indeed. In fact the list of great players that debuted after him retired long before him would be a very long one.

What's the point of mentioning all these players. Many made their debut way earlier than Tendulkar and should not be considered his contemporaries. Does not make any sense. :dontknow:

It doesn't make sense in a rational way but in a sporting romantic sense it can. For example, the last leg of 70s/80s greats (All-rounders, Miandad, Border etc) coincided with arrival of Lara-SRT-Inzzy etc. In some ways it was a case of passing the torch from one great to other. In many ways it was youth vs experience. For example, it was awesome to watch Ian Botham in his end of career finding his magical outswinger to dismiss SRT in 92 WC. But yeah your point overall about career overlap is correct...:nice:

It's not that Tendulkar is getting any preferential treatment from the Indian selectors, it's just that Indian cricket is going through a phase weak enough to justify his continued selection. If the cupboard was brimming with such exceptional talent, why would we keep going back to Suresh Raina and Yuvraj?

How people expect to get some exceptional talents while exceptional talents are always exceptions. Were Dravid and Ganguly were exceptional talents, no. They did wellin FC cricket and were selecte and we have several players doing well in FC cricket, look at them and select them no is oigng to do wrose than SRT, Raina, or Yuvraj. and SRT was an exceptional talent and he is once in a generation player like an excpetion talent should be.
