Yoda-esque Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 He is a much better keeper than Dhoni. His batting at places like South Africa' date= England, and Australia will be marginally worse maybe. On pattas, Dhoni is much better and can even be played as a specialist batsman ahead of the likes of Raina and Badrinath. on what basis are you saying that? And Dhoni is a fine keeper.. Really cannot find fault with him. A real natural... Besides he has that charisma and fear factor ..with Dhoni there are many intangibles
Ultimate_Game Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Ok ..replace Dhoni but with whom ?:giggle: No matter what one says, Dhoni is the best available choice That's the typical "seagull" approach... come in, criticize everyone and cr@p al over and then fly away without any constructive feedback or suggestions. The only thing we will get if we replace Dhoni wit someone else is that we will start losing at home as well :haha:

Just in case, personally I do not have that faith in Saha's batting capabilities. We did play Saha as a specialist batsman in 2010 at home and he failed to impress me at least. I will rather have KD Karthik in.

Besides he has that charisma and fear factor ..with Dhoni there are many intangibles agree... he is good enough Keeper(not the best) and one of the best WK-Batsman(might be in current top3)...plus hes captaining the Indian team made up of never to be dropped oldies and youngsters who are still coming up the ranks... I fail to understand how can ppl not be satisfied or happy with what Dhoni brings to Indian cricket in general... he is actually doing almost everything possible that a player can do...

deathmonger Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 LOL! Now NZ is supposed to be a top ranked team and clubbed together with Australia, South Africa, and England. Here is the reality: http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;filter=advanced;home_or_away=2;home_or_away=3;host=1;host=2;host=3;keeper=1;orderby=batting_average;spanmax1=03+Sep+2012;spanmin1=03+Sep+2008;spanval1=span;template=results;type=batting And if you are including NZ, why leave out WI. Another reality check for fan boys: http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;filter=advanced;home_or_away=2;home_or_away=3;host=1;host=2;host=3;host=4;host=5;keeper=1;orderby=batting_average;spanmax1=03+Sep+2012;spanmin1=03+Sep+2008;spanval1=span;template=results;type=batting Isn't that unfair on Dhoni. Just like Dhoni's overseas stats are being scrutinized, shouldn't these other keepers like Haddin,Prior's avgs in sc be scrutinized. In sc Prior avgs: 29.40 HAddin avgs: 23 McCullum: 15.25 Dhoni: 49.37 But of course, performance in sc is useless.

Can't you understand that at this point? Rule of thumb for some is that runs scored by Dhoni are cheap an when Dhoni doesn't score or others score they are not cheap anymore :giggle:
vvvslaxman Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Prior is the only decent batting wicket keeper. But his wicket keeping is very poor. Rest of the guys don't match upto Gilly. SA is screwing up fine career of ABDV by asking him to keep. It is a tough job to keep for long period and bat again. Also if you look at performance of regular Indian batsmen in the last 5 years in places like SA/OZ/England.. nobody averaged more than 40 except Tendulkar. Tendulkar 51. Next best is Amit Mishra  38 . http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;filter=advanced;home_or_away=2;host=1;host=2;host=3;orderby=runs;spanmax1=04+Sep+2012;spanmin1=04+Sep+2007;spanval1=span;team=6;template=results;type=batting
JaFanatic Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 ^but abdv is still doing good job with the bat na
vvvslaxman Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 ^but abdv is still doing job with the bat na Didn't do well in England. I don't think it is a great idea to push your premiere batsman to keep wickets. I know it was a last minute thing. Hope they don't continue this experiment .

Hope they don't continue this experiment .yeah they din have a backup at that time but still they could've sent a keeper for the 2nd test atleast. anyways asking him to keep wks for tests is not a good idea i agree
deathmonger Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 ^but abdv is still doing good job with the bat na he avgs 30 as wk-bat.
CG Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Dhoni's first >0 score in a successful 4th innings run chase. :hysterical:
SLICKR392 Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Sad for him TBH. Does well, we blame him. Does bad, we blame him. But his technique is going to get him nowhere in Tests overseas and that is where we need these guys to score runs.

Mariyam Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Dhoni is the best finisher in world cricket. ODI, T20 and now he's even proved that in tests.
