Number Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Jayawardene praises 'mature' Unmukt Chand "Definitely it was good knock. I saw him batting in the Under-19 World Cup final as well. It was a fantastic knock. When we came here and he was in squad I always wanted to try and back him and give him the opportunity," Jayawardene said after the 52-run triumph in the CLT20 lung-opener. "But I wasn't sure where he is going to fit in that batting line-up exactly. I think he is a very mature young cricketer who understands the game much better. They were tough conditions but I think he handled them very well; so great credit to him. And hopefully he can improve further," he added. http://www.hindustantimes.com/News-Feed/Chunk-HT-UI-ChampionsLeague2012-TopStories/Jayawardene-praises-mature-Unmukt-Chand/Article1-944393.aspx
Precambrian Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Excellent against pace bowling and esp short pitched stuff.. but looked circumspect against spin... surprisingly for an Indian bat. However that said, he needs to do the hard yards atleast for another season... need to tighten up his game... not yet test standard by any stretch imho. Though will be in time.
Sandeep99 Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 A captain like Jayawardene would do wonders for Chand! He is extremely lucky to be playing alongside KP, Jaya! Coming to the discussion of Mandeep-Chand, I think Chand is potentially a bigger player and will have impact on India cricket... Mandeep defo lacks the 'punch'
King Tendulkar Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 He will debut in india team no doubts. But that should be after 1 season of FC season. No rush guys
ravishingravi Posted October 14, 2012 Author Posted October 14, 2012 Kallis looked sorted out against Morkel. Any batsman will have trouble facing such bowler on such a 2 paced uneven track' date=' key is to survive. Think what can he do on flat tracks.[/quote'] You are joking, right.
saneindian Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Very impressive from Chand. One full season of FC cricket followed by a few more A tours before any sort of international cricket. Hoping he can carry all this confidence in the Ranji Trophy as well and score lots of runs.
rkt.india Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 You are joking' date=' right.[/quote'] No. Didn't you watch the match? Batsmen were never comfortable on this pitch against genuine pace. Kallis had to retire hurt. Most top order batsmen were hit by DD pacers. Ball was jumping from short of good length.

Most top order batsmen were hit by DD pacers. Ball was jumping from short of good length. Struggled against Lee. Catch should have been taken early on. Later did well getting a few good shots off Balaji's bowling though. He has a fairly average domestic record and an average of 31 in NZ A tour means his selection at the moment would be unjustified and based off media hype.

Where did I say he should be selected right now. I said batsmen struggled on that pitch against genuine pace so people shouldnt single out him. You dont get such pitches in world cricket that often.
India-KXIP fan Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Which format are u talking about?Chand did better than Mandeep in the ODI leg of the NZ tour Overall tour. Lets not even compare the FC averages on tour for those batsmen. Cause 1 failed and the other got over 250 runs. Lets not even compare their domestic records cause 1 averages almost 30 more (highest for an Indian) In fact lets not even compare an ordinary media hyped player to a very special prolific scorer who unlike some performs at the same level Home & Away. :giggle:

India-KXIP fan Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Both of them will play for India' date='however Chand might make it earlier into the ODI/T20 team.[/quote'] Chand may make it earlier due to the media hype but he will fail miserably :haha: May get the 1 good fluke innings he gets. He's a chit player at home, only has 1 100 in over 20 Ranji innings'. Although both him and Mandeep are good overseas (Chand still inconsistent there aswell).
India-KXIP fan Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Ban him please' date=' ban him![/quote'] on a srs note mods today unbanned me 1 month early cause they realised I was unfairly banned and most of my posts are quality and unbiased backed with statistics :nice:
Sandeep99 Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 India-KXIP Fan... are you Mandeep Singh in disguise? You seem to be the only one in the entire country who is bringing him up for contention... I'm sure not many ppl would have even heard of him:hysterical::giggle:

veer Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Chand is a pressure player.. still very young.. very impressive against Lee in the way he stood his ground.. good prospect for the future.. he tonked kallis for six and that says a lot.
vvvslaxman Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 if we are talking about Test prospects ' date=' Mandeep >>>>>>>>> Chand .[/quote'] That is too early to say. Neither of them are finished articles. Manish Pandey had this hype like this. He even played a good knock in Ranji final. But he has gone down since. We need to wait and see whether they are good enough for T20 or IPL or ODI or Test or everything.

He still had good last season after coming back from injury.
