In Dhoni's favor

Brilliant return from Yuvi to show some kind of batting that he can still play but in Dhoni's favor, we did miss some doubles and tripled when Yuvra-Kohli were batting and also when Dhoni-Yuvraj were batting because Yuvi looked tired in the middle. Not at his full fitness surely. One can curse dhoni for not showing great strike rate, but to his favor, we did miss those crucial runs in the end which had made the difference. Yuvi still has 2 weeks. I hope he gets fully fit. I am a big fan of YUVI, more than some of you pretenders, but IT'S INDIA FOR ME first.

I don't think his batting cost us the game. It was more the strategy to take it till the end. Cricket bible doesn't say that you have to have a 100+ strike rate to play in 2020 matches. You can easily win matches batitng at a strike rate of under 100 which dhoni had, it was more of the strategy to not able to rotate strikes and taking till the end. I don't have any problem with his strike rate which people keep dishing out.

And we have lost simply because Yuvi and Kohli could not convert 2s to 3s, right?

Also consider that Yuvi was on a comeback' date='imo Dhoni should have taken the initiative, rather than just defending and letting Yuvi do all the work[/quote'] That's the thing. blame the strategy. not the strike rate. It was a weird strategy.

You have a point - but Dhoni's batting SR was not acceptable even with those 2's and 3's you are talking off.

Which T20I match has Dhoni won in that fashion?

You get a feel like Dhoni thinks its on him to finish the game and he doesn't trust the rest of them to finish it off. In T20's his approach should be attacking. I think with our batting more often than not we'll bat full 20 overs and score decently. Perhaps the Eng game must've been playing on his mind. Even in Presentation he said openers played too many shots, well if they hadn't we'd have lost it well in advance.

Also in situations like this it depends how much % of balls he faced in the partnership....Dhoni played nearly 4 overs coming in that late in the innings when you play as many balls, you need to have a better strike rate than that....can't afford to have dot balls can you?

Exactly ,he needs to play fearless cricket and attack with odd singles as well.Leave all this building up to Gambhir and Kohli. And if he cant do that then retire.

The more u think about it,the more inexplicable it becomes. When he took it to the last over in Aus,he was the last recognized batsman and it made some sense, here it was completely misguided.Kohli and Yuvi's efforts were wasted and an out of form Rohit had to go for it from the start, sad really.

http://www.pardaphash.com/news/yuvraj-singh/696893.html Yuvraj, Kohli the heroes, MS Dhoni the villain for India
But this game would certainly be remembered for Yuvraj Singh's comeback to the international arena and he left no stone unturned with his heroic knock. But the Indian captain ruined the celebrations with his overconfident approach towards game. If Dhoni was concious about the win, the game would have been over in the 18th over. But Dhoni's yet another careless approach proved out to be dearer after a number of lucky escapes earlier.
