saneindian Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Ahsiwn's record in T20s - 11 matches, 7 wickets@48 with a ER of 7.81 He has never picked up more than a wicket in any of the matches, yet he seems to have a permanent place in the t20 side. Even on Asian pitches he has proved to be ineffective so far. Should Bhajji/Chawla from the T20 WC squad be preferred over Ashwin when we play our next t20 match?
Executioner Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 should chaiwala and dhartbajan be included ahead of Ashwin? ARE YOU kidding me?
Sooda Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 It isnt a good record, Ashwin also gets the edge because he can bat a bit...maybe Bhajjis style of batting is probably more suited to T20's...Chawla has the variety to pick up wickets but lacks control...
vvvslaxman Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Bhajji might even come in place for Ashwin. But don't look at raw stats of him. Ashwin often opened the bowling and bowled at the death. ER is actually not bad considering the time at which he bowls. Also remember bhajji's pathetic effort for Mumbai Indians.
namasteji1 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Guys, did you notice that Ashwin was bowling with a changed action yesterday? He seems to have three different actions for the three formats. I could clearly notice it.

[b']He seems to have three different actions for the three formats. I could clearly notice it. :giggle: Bhajji has not played intl cricket for more than a year, and Chawla is such a poor bowler for the format. This poor selection in the spin department, will cause headache unless Ashwin starts doing well. Though I feel we should show some faith in him. Stats not the true reflector of his ability, has only played 2 T20s in India.
Sid Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Ya he has different bowling actions for diff formats :cantstop: On topic,Harbhajan and Ashwin both in same match would be a nice contest :hmmm:
G_B_ Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 to be honest with you I will play both Bhajji and Ashwin cause Ashwin cannot be trusted to deliver a good performance on his own and neither can bhajji. Its a case of playing both and churning out 6 decent overs from them. play 5 bowlers plus Yuvi/Sehwag/Raina. So that way you are covered from the **** performance. Ashwin has been good in the tests and Odis. But for some reason its ironic that he made his mark in domestic T20 but has been abysmal in international T20 cricket. I never realised how poor ashwin's stats were till i looked into cricinfo yesterday. I kept having this idea that ashwin was a top quality T20 bowler. Based on the stats Bhajji might be a better bet than ashwin.
vvvslaxman Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Ashwin's all T20 exploits are in the IPL. That is where he dismissed guys like Gayle and other good players . He was even preferred ahead of Muralitharan. They sat him out to include some other foreign player just because they were having Ashwin. Unlike IPL interntaional T20 games are few and far between. Shouldn't read too much into non-worldT20 performances.

G_B_ Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 and lets look at Bhajji's T20 record 23 matches at an average of 30 with an economy of 6.44 with the bat an average of 15 with a strike rate of 120. Maybe its time to realise a dart on the leg stump is exactly whats needed in T20.
rkt.india Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Ashwin needs to chuck like Ajmal does and then mix the variations of pace. He bowls and flights like test match in a T20 match, look at Ajmal why he is so successful, fast chucking is what is required nowadays. Bowling slow and flighting do work but he needs to mix them with faster ones, to deceive batsmen on non-responsive pitches.

He is not able to bowl the faster ones like Ajmal, Swann or even Hafeez. He gently lobs it. We can mention that it on his twitter!!

gaurav92 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Bhajji and Ashwin both can play with a line up like this :- Sehwag Gambhir Kohli Raina Yuvraj Dhoni Irfan Bhajji Ashwin Zaheer Balaji

JaFanatic Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 if a board like PCB can face the consequences for ajmal's chucking then why not BCCI? ashwin should chuck he may not have any problem doing so if BCCI can support him
Yoda-esque Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Bhajji is a better bet for t20s than Ash
