Haarkarjeetgaye Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 First thing that comes to my mind is the decision of Umar Gul Lbw Nehra Trundler from Mohali. Cool and Calm LBW decision. Gul reviewed it thinking he can be the messiah for Pakistan with the bat after seeing Misbah bat.
jind Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 would be missed for sure.. Umpiring is also a very stressful job mind you
Executioner Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 would be missed for sure.. Umpiring is also a very stressful job mind you agree so much, its not easy to stand there for so long!
dial_100 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Agree with almost all that has been already said here. One of the BEST umpires. You will be missed Simon. Have a great life.
carnish Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Terrific Guy .. Humble, Decent and a true Gentleman. Great Umpire to go alongwith that. :hatsoff:
Precambrian Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 A good umpire.. although not as good as the Dar. A quick reconnaisance reveals the talk of having to stay away from home is overrated. On an avg spends about 60 days travelling.
SLICKR392 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Very likable guy. Will be missed :hatsoff:
Trichromatic Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 A quick reconnaisance reveals the talk of having to stay away from home is overrated. On an avg spends about 60 days travelling. :hmmm:
BERGKAMP Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012  im sure he was named simon awful on here.
VRV Singh Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 He is the best I have seen, a decision like giving Luke Wright out lbw the other day is a fair example of that, certainly will be missed. :hatsoff: Who is the best now?
maniac Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 One of the best Umpires in recent times.....Now guys like Dharmasena are considered the best
Iconoclast Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Respect to Taufel from 1.5 billion people of the subcontinent ... he was an honest umpire in the midst of some hardcore racists.
Tiger-Don Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 just wait for few years :winky: Its gonna be a bad thing if its a distraction in uS, i cant check scores from school anymore :((
Clarke Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Somehow i guess we're gonna feel his absence more than the likes of Dravid/Laxman. There's talented batsmen waiting for their turn but umpires like him ? I'm not so sure. BCCI's reluctance to discuss DRS makes guys like him worth their weight in Kryptonite, that's if you value fairness in the game. Who is the best now? Without question Dar.
Ram Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 The Bradman of umpiring, one of the most respected figures of world cricket. ICC was very quick to invest in the uber-expensive DRS system in the aftermath of Sydney 2008 and everything that followed that. If only they had looked at Taufel, a viable, significantly less expensive alternate design to reduce umpiring errors would have dawned on them - You dont force 65+ year ex-cricketers to stand in the sun for 8 consecutive hours and hope they churn out accurate umpiring decisions. You need young(er) men who are physically fitter and whose bodies can cope with all of the demands international umpiring. No offense to old people (I hope to live long enough to be one someday), but when I see a 65 year old man driving in the lane next to me, I get nervous. I dont ever want a 65 year old umpire to be adjudicating close lbw calls when Jimmy Anderson is bowling to Sachin Tendulkar.
Crookbond Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 A good umpire.. although not as good as the Dar. A quick reconnaisance reveals the talk of having to stay away from home is overrated. On an avg spends about 60 days travelling. Let us assume what you are saying is indeed true. Who are you to decide that 60 days is not ok for Simon Taufel? For you 60 days is not much but for others may be it is a big task. im sure he was named simon awful on here. So? Stop with the endless conspiracy theories man. :headshake:
