Iresh Saxena has done well in whatever limited chances he's got. Got a fiver in the Duleep Trophy final as well. Also, Bengal does not select players (nowadays) who have not played in the CAB league. No problem regarding pacers - Ravi Kant Singh might play if Shami is gone.

Taruwar Kohli was tipped as a special talent in Punjab cricket after his performance in the Under-19 World Cup that India had won four years ago. He was soon drafted into the Ranji Trophy squad. That was during the 2008-09 season. Kohli, however, failed to make an impression in first class cricket and has been in and out of the Ranji team. In four years he has played only 11 matches. Before being drafted in for the quarterfinal against Jharkhand, Kohli's last match had come in November 2011. But given this opportunity, he grabbed it with both hands. Yes, the wicket was flat and Jharkhand bowled with very little intensity on the final day. But a triple century is a big achievement at any level, whatever be the conditions. Kohli's leap of joy, after he reached the milestone, said it all. Resuming on 151, Kohli remained unbeaten on 300 as Punjab declared on 699/3 at tea. Coming into this game, he had just one first-class hundred 118 against Gujarat in 2009-10. But the team management kept faith in his quality, preferring him over Karan Goel and Mayank Sidana for this game."He (Kohli) is technically very sound. Also, he is very fit and a brilliant fielder," said Harbhajan Singh. Kohli's vigil spanning 823 minutes and 608 balls spoke volumes of his fitness. He displayed his range of shots with 34 fours and two sixes. The 24-year-old is strong on both sides of the wicket. He plays the on drive through the midwicket region very well and also can play the cut with aplomb. He added 264 in an unbroken fourth-wicket stand with Uday Kaul, who scored 113 not out. Have to say pretty disappointed with the pitches in quarters , barring services game all have been high scoring matched, how are we suppose to unearth fast bowlers and spinners , when pitches has nothing to offer .

Ranji quarters,semis and finals should be played on neutral venue's Folks, enough of this 600-700 run pitches, with teams batting for 200 odd overs , let there be sporting pitches where only good enough 's will be able to score runs and takes wickets,these patta's gives us a false picture about batsman, I will rather take a gritting hundred on a green mamba (green top)or a rank turner or a dust bowl or a spitting cobra( bouncy pitch) , over a 200-300 on a flat road, all I am saying is, given the importance these matches should have been played on sporting wickets, I mean what's the use of playing normal games on sporting tracks and then spoiling the whole idea by going to flat roads :facepalm:

ESPN website only shows Semi Final listed right now, so not decided yet, it seems. My guess would be Mumbai vs Services with Sachin in the squad. Want to see the Other game more though personally.

This is why we are getting plenty of mediocre batsmen with average of 55+ and not many quality spinners or fast bowlers.

Telecasting the Mum vs Ser game will be tough, Palam ground doesn't have too many facilities for live telecast. Rajkot ground will be better equipped IMO, plus we will get to see the likes of Jiwanjot, Uday and Sid Kaul, Sandeep Sharma. But hope if they show the Rajkot we get a better pitch and not a flat road.

Exactly. The strange thing is, this fact has been recognised by the cricketing fraternity for more than 20 years and it is only this year that some improvement has happened in the group match pitches. Question is, why has it taken so long ? Further,the knockout pitches are back to flat.

Ranji knockouts have a mandatory third umpire requirement, so I am sure Palam would have at least enough facilities for a live telecast though not the best produced one.

This is were jadeja got one of his triples, same ground as were last odi was. Total road and glass outfield. Shame selctors did not factor that in when deciding that he got triple and so should be in test side
