Obama is no messIah, but Romney is worse of the two. Exactly! "I will bring all jobs back to US from China" - how?? what about non-skilled ones with huge labor cost difference, how will you manage increased business costs then...... no answer " I will not let ppl suffer tax increases, I will not let defense spending go down, I will balance budget"- really how ?? I think Romney is a smart cookie but he brought nothing but marketing and drama to the table

John McCain, last Republican Presidential hopeful, hails from AZ. In fact he lost to George Bush in 2000 primaries. I have always wondered how different things would have been had McCain won. He, in 2000, was clearly a very moderate person who would bring folks from across the aisle together. His moderate-ness was the bane for Republicans and they booted him out and selected Bush. The right whingers have seen it downhill since then. Wonder what CA thinks of John McCain, the 2000 version?

Hope this election creates a strong moderate wing within the Repub hierarchy.

I would expect a true-blue conservative to believe that kind of stereotype, but as as a fellow-liberal, I'd expect you know to get past the campaign bluster and realize that when it comes to controlling the deficit, the GoP is all bluster and little action. The Regan-Bush Sr. combo quadrupled the national debt in the 12 years before Clinton. And we all know what Bush Jr did, with his unpaid phony war in Iraq. Everyone says Obama added nearly 5 trillion to the debt in the first years of tenure, but how much of it was something he wanted to do, versus something he was forced to do as a result of the previous 8 years of failed policies, both domestic and foreign? If the 2008 collapse did not happen, there would have been no $1.2 Trillion bailout that would have been required. If only the phony war in Iraq did not happen, many 100s of millions of dollars would have never been spent there. If only the focus was kept on Afghanistan, maybe the way there would have wound down already, instead of going on all the way till 2014. When it comes to controlling the debt, the GoP talks the good talk when in the opposition, but forget the rhetoric the moment they get in power. Like I mentioned previously, the GoP is now a 2 issue party - Cut entitlements and control women's sexual freedom. Like Mr.Romney himself so eloquently described, the GoP thinks half of the country are free-loaders mooching off the hard-work of the rest. They dont like that happening. They cant run on a platform of 'I dont care about poor people', so they created this bogey of fiscal catastrophe, hoping that will convince the US electorate that cuts in welfare spending is the only way out of this inevitable disaster.

Ram, it was not always thus right? Raegan was one of the guys who raised tax rates the highest. I believe government is responsible for safety, security and providing for the disadvantaged. Although this is a very simple statement it is not in practice, I strongly believe universal health care is part of the deal that a government should provide. But what about education loans? what about subsidies for buying an electric car? etc I dont believe the government has business doing these things. Agree wars especially th last 2 ones were under republicans and are the major reason for the deficits that exist today, but where will you draw the line? for the spending done by the government?
