Rishi Dhawan....how good is he?

I was just looking at the statistics for this ranji season and dumped into this guy......he is the highest wicket taker for this season. But what surprises me is his batting avg...which is hovering around 45.......Not bad for a bowler.... Anybody saw his bowling...he seems to be a medium pacer.....what are his speeds like?

Haven't seen much of him, but the good thing about him is that he is a consistent performer.

Has a good built, looks to have a good action, with some work can easily be bowling 135 and going by his stats he can surely bat. A decent bowler and a decent batsman, probably will have to put some work on his bowling. The problem players like him face is that there is no one to guide them on how to move to the next lvel. Ideally all such players should be sent to the NCA under specialist coaches to work on their game and then be on A tours to see if the hve it them to succeed at a higher level.

i often see ppl posting like ah he is bowling around 130 with some work/change in action he'll be around 135 is it really that possible to increase the pace to 5 to7 kmph for every bowler?:idunno:

Strongly built & if he can bowl at 130 in the 9-match ranji trophy, surely he can step up a notch in the internationals. Lets wait & watch. I guess, with the next world cup being in Aus, its imperative that we start hunting for good fast bowlers / fast bowling allrounders & technically sound batsman. We will not go anywhere with hacks like Jadeja( he was a failure in Aus tri-series)

increasing 5-7k is not tough. You need a good coach who understands bowler's action. Look at Pankaj Singh. He was hardly touching 130K 1 year back and Mayrick Pringle worked with him and made him clock 140 plus on occasions this season, consistently around 135.

I don't see a bowler like this picking up wickets in Test cricket. Could be wrong, but I think he'll struggle against stronger Ranji teams and in zonal cricket in the long term.

Doesn't look like test match level, but could be useful in ODIs. Specially in away conditions where dart throwers like Jadeja get hammered all over the place, he can be used to get a decent number of overs as the fifth bowler and bat at number 6-7. Though it depends on whether he is an attacking batsman, I have no idea.

A few people on twitter have been hyping him, but after I saw that video, just chucked that name aside. Supposedly recently played a good attacking knock on a difficult pitch where others failed

we have a history of producing legendary bits and pieces domestic all-rounders like bangar, reetinder sodhi, joginder singh, etc and perhaps RD is in the same mould... These are the type of players that formed the core of the england side through out the late 90s and thats why they sucked so bad at that time Perhaps we should give him another season or two to see if he can keep up the gaudy stats

I fully understand Rishi Dhawan is an average, poor-man's slow-medium all rounder (FAR LESS than Irfan Pathan in batting and bowling). Stuart Panni was in last ODI side, and given he did miracles in Bangladesh - he may be back. But ideally, I want Rishi Dhawan to replace panni in our ODI squad? Fat chance of that happening???

Rishi Dhawan has a solid batting technique. More suited to test cricket. Bowling- 125-130 can get reverse and is accurate with good probing lines
