Sydney Test will be his last.

Michael Hussey has announced that the third and final Test against Sri Lanka at the SCG will be his final Test. Hussey, who has played a total of 78 Tests and 185 ODIs, will be available for the rest of the 2012-13 Australian summer and also stated that he will be available for Western Australia and for the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League. He will also review his availability for both the teams after the end of the summer. Cricket Australia Chairman Wally Edwards said that he had followed Michael Hussey's cricket career with admiration in Western Australia. During the last 10 years where he produced his best cricket at the state level, he had also followed his progress in the Australian national team. "Michael Hussey has been a wonderful cricketer and he has had a fine career. He is one of the best team players and he is a wonderful person, both on the field and off it. To make his Test debut at the age of 30 and go on to achieve what he has is a tremendous feat." Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland said that Hussey's retirement is a huge loss for Australian cricket but wished him all the luck for his life after cricket. Mr. Sutherland said, "Michael Hussey has played a major part in many of Australia's major Test wins. He has been a thoroughly dedicated cricketer and he prepared meticulously to attain almost super-human levels of fitness. His consistency in all forms of the game is remarkable to say the least." He added that Hussey was an incredibly reliable player and the records that he has attained puts him in the list of all-time great Australian batsmen. He remarked that Hussey would also be remembered for the way he carried himself both on and off the field. Mr. Sutherland pointed out that this had won him admiration from players, officials and fans all over the world. "I congratulate him on his success and we wish him well for the future. We hope to see him stay close to the game after his retirement is over," Mr. Sutherland remarked.

Unexpected and shocking. He looked set to play in the 10 Ashes tests next year before retiring. Another hole in the Aussie batting line up opens up. God forbid if Clarke loses form, the Aussies are doomed.

I thought he would score a lot of runs in their next test series against India. Good cricketer but it shows they know when they have to hang their boots. Same with Gilchrist, Hayden etc. They dont hang about till they become a liability for the team and fans want them to go away because they cant stand to see them embarrassing themselves.
