How about Raina in the first ODI?

The kid walked in at the most difficult position one could imagine in an ODI. The pitch was still gripping but he held his own. Call him unconventional or unorthodox but he stepped up big time. I would rate this 40 very high on his ODI profile.

Did you watch the inning ? Scratched through' date=' was lucky his umpteen edges didn't go to the fielders.[/quote'] a test match field & a bowler allowed to bowl as many overs as capable would have got Raina earlier..

Raina the ODI player is already one of India's best player in recent times. The knocks he played in World cup QF/SF were class! He will always be a very good limited overs cricketer.

Raina is a very valuable player for India in ODIs. Superb fielder, excellent hitter and good finisher. He seems to have also improved batting against the short ball in recent times.

If I have to choose one guy to be my best friend from Indian team, no doubt it would be Raina....Raina is the biggest team player and I have never seen him whine about batting at lower position ... never seen him abusing anyone and always patting and encouraging everyone... Raina is most under-rated player in our team.. I would actually rate him above Dhoni and Kohli... Dhoni decides his batting position as per her his will, Kohli gets to bat at 3 to show his potential but this Raina is always thrown at the deep end where either he has score quick runs or coming when there is a collapse... what I don't understand is the hate Indian fans carry for him and the uncoditional love fans have for Rohit the talent Sharma

Raina is not hated. He is a valued one-day player for his ability in two of the three disciplines, a rarity in days when we have players who are crap at everything and specialist fielders in the team.

Raina has good attitude and works on his game.Hope he shorts his problem against short ball as then he will be a very good player.

Yes, his great innings should provide him a lot of mental strength.

Show good temperment but got out after doing good amount of hard work. Had he stayed for another 10 overs we might have crossed over 250. Nevertheless, pretty good knock under pressure. Curbed his game and played a very un-raina knock. Was nice to see that.

The fact that he could do that earns my respect.

In fact I would say he is a decent choice for LOI captain.

Our ODI batting is still very good. Virat, Yuvi, Dhoni, Raina are class ODI bats. The team below can be very useful under all conditions. Rahane Gambhir / Mandeeep / U Chand / Pujara Virat Yuvi *+ Dhoni Raina I Pathan Ashwin B Kumar 2 among Yadav / Aaron / Dinda / Shami / Pankaj / Ishant (I'd pick Yadav and Aaron if they are fit, their pace will complement well with swing of Pathan and Kumar) Fielding is decent, batting is powerful and deep, plenty of bowling options (pace, swing, spin . covering all bases).

During the England series many posters here were saying that the Indian players are not playing for their country. But when you see Raina play, you can't question his commitment. He is a team player and gives his 100 per cent. Kohli also does that, but Raina has a more likeable attitude (at least for me being a pakistani)
