I wouldn't mind having Rohit open ahead of Rahane. Gambhir did well there the last time we toured and most of Paki left handed openers did considerably well compared to their top order (RHB). Also out lefties are much better than theirs. Farhat did decently..so a Gambhir or a Mukund can surely do much better. We lack good lefties in Test cricket..its a good plan against that attack to pack your side with left handers but we haven't got much of them.

The Indian selectors meet on Thursday to pick the team for the third and fourth Tests in Mohali and Delhi respectively. It's a given that the pitch in Mohali won't be as dusty as Chennai and Hyderabad and the question to be asked is, will the selectors make changes to a team that's winning or will they play it safe? TOI analyses the possibilities. The Sehwag Conundrum: Virender Sehwag has carried his poor form from the England series - barring the 100 in the first Test in Ahmedabad - to the contest against the Aussies, and questions are rightly being asked about his place in the side. There is a theory doing the rounds that he is not too comfortable playing with spectacles on. With India scheduled to play next in bowling-friendly conditions of South Africa later this year, and Sehwag's game on the wane, it remains to be seen if the selectors will take the cue and groom a youngster to partner Vijay in the last two Tests against the Aussies, or give the Delhi dasher a final lifeline. They could even dangle the bait of a middle-order spot at him as suggested by the legendary Rahul Dravid, but that will mean playing a bowler less. Explore Fast Bowling Options: Do India need a third spinner in Mohali? It can be argued that the pitch there has never been overly conducive to spin but one also has to take into account the fact that it's the end of the season and all the wickets on the square would be weary. However, if the selectors do need to make changes, they may look at giving the industrious Shami Ahmed a break instead of the underperforming Harbhajan Singh. The enthusiastic Ashok Dinda, who hasn't been picked in the XI so far, is already in the side as support to Ishant and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. But that will mean playing only one off-spinner against a side packed with lefthanders . Will it be prudent? Bolster The Batting: Dhoni said recently that he would bat at No.6 as long as Ravindra Jadeja was there in the team. The ploy has worked in the last three Tests. However, with the surface at Mohali likely to afford more bounce, playing only five batsmen with Dhoni at six could be a luxury. Ashwin's batting too has gone off the boil of late and he doesn't give you that insurance lower down the order anymore. In that case, they could play Ajinkya Rahane at six and drop either Harbhajan or Jadeja, who looks suspect against quality pace, and allow Dhoni to bat at seven. But will Dhoni, ever so reluctant to change a winning combination, be willing for such a move.

Virender Sehwag, the India batsman, has been dropped for the third and fourth Tests against Australia, to be played in Mohali and his hometown Delhi respectively. The rest of the squad remains the same, there has been no replacement named. Sehwag had scores of 2, 19, and 6 in his three innings in the first two Tests, in Chennai and Hyderabad. Dont matter what they take to South Africa or who they take ... Philander will run through us and take atleast 3 10-fers in that series.

Wonder what it will do to an already strained Dhoni-Sehwag relationship unless this is the end of Sehwag's career for the selectors. If he's still in their plans, hope Sehwag has been talked through it and given a proper explanation.

At least Gambhir should have been given a chance in last 2 tests to see if he gets back to form. Then, we have an opener who has experience in SA conditions and has done well previously. Now with Dhawan and Vijay to open in SA with their suspect footwork and technique against pace bowling, expect India to be 2 wickets down in no time. Its frankly asking too much of them to play in conditions which they are not familiar with against the world's best bowlers.

I don't think Sehwag wouldn't have been communicated considering that he played the first 2 Test matches. Even Zaheer Khan after being dropped spoke to the media and told that communications have already been there.
