Apparently they don't have affinity to theier mother tongue either- which is sad. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Not easy though if you're not in your native state. Then there's cases where the script bears no resemblance to the three other languages you're learning/using at any given point.

The Outsider Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Studied in Oriya (these days Odiya) medium till graduation. :proud: Your English is impeccable and would be nice if you could share how you were able to gain such command in the language. A lot of really bright students face it difficult to overcome the language barrier when they move on to a professional career or higher academics where most of the things are done in English.

I thought French is opretty simple for a beginner. I had French in my first year of PG and found the grammer very logical adn easy to learn

Though there are a few who watch(My mom loves malayalam movies more than Tamil ones.) I have also found that mallus are generalt more adaptive and are eager to learn other languages, even giving Hindi a try. Most native mallus have Hindi in syllabus. On the other hand most native Tamils take too much pride in their own language to the extent that they will not willfully learn any other Indian language apart from English.

I had French in my first year of PG and found the grammer very logical adn easy to learn Simple or not, it's far from being toughest language in Europe. Learning Polish for example often proves to be a nightmare for many people.

AFAIK German, French and Italian are the most popular mainland European language for Business/ commerce/ education/ research purposes.

I experienced it in real life and on internet too. I am a Bengali but not too sure what exactly you want to know. Don't we feel proud about our motherland? Traditions? I guess same holds true for your native tongue. Also, Bengalis are relatively 'Padhaku' type, means they love their literature, intellectuals, etc. Hence this might be the case.

Regarding the bolden part it's mainly due to the rules/beliefs imposed upon the people by the politicians- it's gradually changing. But yes we are proud of our language and that's changing too:((

The teacher tought our class for 2 semesters then finally both the students and the teacher realized it was no good and we were not going to learn :cantstop: As for my language, I know how to read, write and speak Hindi.
