Two decent bowlers, but a long way to go to have competent pace department across all formats. We saw what happened when Yadav got injured. It's critical to have decent back-ups. Just hoped Pankaj was given a chance too in this series. The 4th and current 5th ODI game would have been ideal (if selected initially).

Long way to go..Agarkar, Zaheer, Pathan, Munaf, Sreesanth, Ishant all have had perhaps better starts than these two. Hopefully these two will continue to improve and not stagnate over the next 12-18 months.

Hopefully these two will continue to improve and not stagnate over the next 12-18 months.[/quote'] they both seem to have some plan with shami he was struggling a bit to control his in swing or seam moment he was getting and was drifting on leg side but that will change when he will bowl more and get into better rhythm bhuvan within his limitations knows what to do which is really good to watch

All those whom I named also looked similar and in fact slightly better when they started their career. Zaheer and Munaf had amazing yorkers and bouncers, Agarkar had pace and movement even on dead tracks, Pathan and Sreesanth had the banana swing,.. Key for Shami and Bhuvi is to continue their development. They will most likely become regulars for their IPL sides and thats where the stagnation has started for many of our pacers. Hope these two do not go on the same path.

Guys- Pardon me for beeing PeSsimistic but my Study says.... Shami is a less than 140K bowler with effort balls touching 142K anD normally 135 to 138K.... He manages Little Swing but not enuf to Beat a Batsman....is a Decent bowler with the brand new ball but an average bowler later....... Bhuvi is a Swing Bowler who can become a Huge Threat till the ball becomes 8 over old.....after that he is an ordinary TRUNDLER......Big SHock about him and his clone bowler PK is that they Look Dreaded Bowlers with the New ball and suddenly they Look Ordinary Trundlers and same batsman who was getting beaten starts hitting them out.

I saw Pandey but he wasn't impressive on TV...pankaj was always Average.....don't know if he has Improved now but actually I thot of him as a bowler with little less talent than venkatesh Prasad...... Not many bowlers of that Huge physique can bowl as SLOW as Pankaj Singh....... We all shud get Excited when there is a Talent Like Umesh Yadav or Varun Aroon or if sombody has the Swing of Irfan pathan.....see bhuvi n irfan with the New baLl It wud be great seeing irfan Bhuvnesh n umesh on a swing track or Umesh Varun and Irfan or bhuvi together......tall ishant can also come in.....

Both these bowlers have been good so far. But only time will tell whether they will become decent bowlers for India in the long run. I don't expect them to be more than decent. None of them possess the extra pace or extra bounce needed to be great pacers in tests. Their biggest positive so have been that they have bowled decent areas so far and maintained pressure from both sides in the early overs, something which is rare with team India.

Lol at the topic.. Pace losers would be more apt. Let's see how long Kumar can keep it at 135ks before bowling like the other Kumar. Ahmed looks promising though. The only Indian bowler I've seen who started at 140+ and kept at it for more than a year has been Umesh Yadav. But he looks more of an exception than norm, and even he has been injured for a long time now.

Shami was never a consistent 140K bowler like Yadav but he bowls consistently around 85 mph which is good enough and what is good about his that he gets movement in the air and off the pitch both ways and you do not need huge swing to take wickets as it will result in batsmen missing the ball. An inch of deviation is enough to trouble batsmen and get that edge.

Dhoni doesn't seem to rate Shami very highly. Hopefully he can repeat his Duleep Trophy final performance in the Irani Trophy and kickstart his test career during the Aus series. Has been the best bowler in the A tours and no reason to believe why he cannot do well at the test level. His India A performances: 4 matches, 16 wickets@26 WI A- 3/43, 2/24, 4/48, 1/29, 3/75, 0/26, NZ A- 3/56, 0/23 Duleep Trophy final- 4/73, 4/50 So in 5 key matches, he has picked 24 wickets@23. ANother good performance in Irani Trophy and he should be in the test squad.
