As they say, attack's the best defence on such pitches against such attack

Time and time we are shown that when you are playing on such pitches and against such bowling attacks like that of South Africa, a technically good batsman might not survie you a day or take away the pressure, it's players like Sehwag who come out handy. They literally can put Opening bowlers, out of spell. We have seen that happend in the past in Australia and these things still are very important for a touring side who go to places like South Africa. I am not trying to support Sehwag for his recent poor run, but just can't help praise Sehwag enougha bout how handy he has been for us in test matches to make sure opposition don't terrorize us like the way the did against Pakistan today. The way he plays, he literally takes away the pressure from all the teams. We all should just hope and wish he comes back to his best. INDIA NEEDS HIM at the opening slot to tour South Africa.

sehwag like players dont survive such tracks thatsn ot attack itj ust looks like a slog there u need classy players playing positively too survive like clarke did or tendulkar..and even they were defensive some times as its just impossible to attack some one like steyn when he is at his best.. kp did well by attacking but it wasnt this kind of pitch and kp himself said that

Sehwag has lost too much of credibility to be counted as one of better attacking batsmen in these conditions. He has looked more like a slogger in Afridi mould than an accomplished batsman.Yes attacking is good but not like Sehwag. You need some technique to survive and I don't even this pitch is doing that much.

Most of the south african pitches are kind of similar. They are not flat breads after few sessions the way they are in Australia after few sessions. It's not that easy to put down 400+ scores there. Even a poor INdian bowling attack who would have given away 400+ against Zimbabwe batting line up might end up bowling south africa out for under 250 on some of thse pitches. Since you got to bowl line and lenght and be consistent there. So many caught behinds happen here. Players like Sehwag have made that difference on top for us. You got to accept that. I mean India's opening stand in particular and Sehwag is whre all that diffenec come. Recent slump of openers clearly show how poorly we have done in test. 2 poor away tours to Australia, England from openers and we have struggled big time scoring over 300 in all those test matches. Even at home we couldn't pile over 300 for a longer period when we were going through that 0-8 drubbing period. We need Sehwag to be back at his best on top in order to have chance to post big scores in south africa.

U do not get it.Sehwag when at his best could counter attack which would provide psychological edge to coming batsman as well as the team. Also quick starts of 30-40.Opening is hard job in such conditions.Clarke struggles when ball swings so it is not a good example at all.

i know wht ur saying but tell me how did sehwag do last time in south africa? that was before world cup and he still was in form sehwag has lost his credibility he is scary at home but away from home specially in conditions like south africa he has dont nothing of note as opener he struggled then in england and then in australia..and i honestly believe he wont even play this series @tics i will ask u one thing how are u planning for him to get back into form? even at his best sehwag never did great in such conditions and now he struggles even at home and slogs vs spinners:giggle:

Well just stick to him. You have tried different openers in ODI. I don't mind if you keep trying for another few series, but let's not tinker too much with Test Line up. It's a line up which is already missing guys like Laxman and Dravid who were capable of playing out big sessions. You got to keep in mind that our best of batsmans in last few years like Pujara etc haven't really played much over seas cricket and if they have, they haven't really done anything great there so far. So you got to have A Sehwag and a Tendulkar in that line up for sure among Kohli and Pujara in the middle. I would rather have 50-1 and PUjara coming into bat instead of 30-2 or 40-3 where Pujara/Kohli are batting together and form a good p'ship of hundred runs which will take us to about 150-3 and all of sudden a collapse to under 200 runs. A 80-1 start where Sehwag making 40 odd will make a difference in us reaching us close or over 250, which is what the deal is in South Africa. You don't win by big run margins in south africa. You either win by an innings or you win by under 60 runs. A lead of 30-40 odd runs between the innings is considered really valuable.

arre..who is saying opening partnership isnt important? wht im saying is hoping for sehwag to play well where he has never played well when his game is getting worse everyday is wrong even last time gautam out performed him in south africa.. imo sehwag is done .. he depends on his quick reflexes which are slowing down way he played anderson at home proves my point:((

Please check what Sehwag did on last 2 tours to SA. He cant play pace even in Indian nowadays.

Sehwag is fine, the two next in line Vijay and Dhawan are worse. I want to see Sehwag in cause he slogs it and is better to watch. He will have few dropped catches and get a few fluke 100s. Will be good to watch :agree:

He did okay in the last tour Got 60 at centurion and played two important knocks in a low scoring match at durban and did not play in the last test which was a good wicket.Be it perth ,durban shewag opening the innings has given diff momentum to the team.

Sehwag does not really have the technique to survive on green tops against Steyn and co. Attacking play by a player with the calibre of Tendulkar will work in South Africa. Sehwag can floursih once in a while in hostile conditions, but not on a consistent basis to seriously hurt the opposition.

In recent years, Sehwag has been a joke of a batsman on seaming pitches like this. He should be the last person to be used as an example of how to bat on these pitches. Yes he has the odd 30 or 40 he has scored but largely his record is one of serial failure when the ball is moving around away from Asia especially in South Africa, England and New Zealand. There's no doubt Sehwag has been mighty effective on slow pitches and there he has often scored runs quickly when others in our side have struggled. But on seaming pitches his technique and approach is inadequate.

lol Cricketics pimping up Sehwag again. :haha: Sehwag hasn't done anything overseas in the last couple of years or his lifetime in SA apart from that odd 100 with Sachin. He's been a massive failure.
