The goal should be to try and replicate the phenomenal run he has had so far and anything close to it would work well for any team. What does Smith want from him, bowling avg of 10 ? This subcontinental talk is all trash as well, so what if he doesn't perform in India/SL ? Lets give him a chance to play and then make judgements. I don't understand why people hate successful bowlers who aren't phaasst, all skills like accuracy & swing/seam ability should be equally admired.

Honestly if it is possible for him to get fitter and gain bit of pace then he should... But I hope he does not changes anything else i dont think getting injured is going to do him any good either. Nor his team. The fact is your part of a bowling attack of 5 where each member brings something to the table. Maybe rather than asking philander to bowl faster, he should be asking South African spinners to control the innings in the middle. That seems to be a more pressing issue The second test was in conditions which did aid spin. Peterson was pretty crap with the ball.

He is brilliant but he still has tokeep improving things he lacks to be best imo And most south African cricketers don't get content... If u look at him like Smith is he still sees where he can improve Forget these numbers in long run he won't be able to replicate them imo but he should not let performance stop him from improving There is huge gap between 135 k pace and just hitting 130k if he can add a yard without losing anything then why should he not?

Personally, I'd be very conservative with a talent like him, and I won't be sad to see him more successful when he's quicker (unless he plays India). There's too much to lose if the risk doesn't pay off. I read this in the 90s, when you shake a tree in SA, down falls a fast bowler. Looking at the number of quicks they have, its not an issue finding those that can bowl 85 mph. I genuinely believe this 80 mph guy can still have a role with the old ball by bowling accurately and containing the batsman on flatter wickets. There are 3 men who bowl quicker than him already in the XI, they should all be managed properly by exploiting their strengths as opposed to expecting them to fill other's boots.

A once-in-fifty-years record over 15 tests across 3 countries isn't something that comes to mind wrt sub-continental batsmen. This guy is just different so far, so lets respect that.

What's with Pak obsession with phasssht bowlers ? If you think someone who has picked 87 wickets at an average of 17 is not international class, then something is wrong with you. Ability to swing the ball and bowling in right areas matters a great deal than just bowling 145 kph and not having the before mentioned attributes.
