They can be given chance in their desired position too in the future when vacancy arises. If you ask any domestic player, I am quite sure they would like to play for team in any position rather than not playing at all. Can anybody make a stats of Sachin Tendulkar in different batting positions both in ODI and tests throughout his international career. That would be interesting for sure. FYI, Veeru was not a opener too when he first entered the team IIRC. So, people change position in their initial years and that is not the first time. Even in domestic cricket, players often change position. A good player has a fair chance of doing well in any position. As I mentioned earlier, we have NOTHING TO LOSE as our openers have been baggage for quite sometime. So, giving a chance to someone else won't do any harm. Maybe they can contribute more than the dozen runs that our openers contribute in most matches.

Of course he should be dumped once and for all. A specialist batsman who reaches 50 three times in 40 international innings? Even Pakistan wouldn't keep playing a player so diabolically awful. But he plays for the right state and right IPL franchisee in this era of Indian cricket so expect to see this atrocious player keep getting chance after chance given to him by Dhoni and Srinivasan.

He is going to get one last series. This series will decide his future. He performs, he stays, if not he goes. No big deal. It is not like we have a Sunny Gavaskar to take the opener slot(s). Soon we will have another opening slot available for filling given the way Sehwag is going. He does have a test 100 against the Aussies.

Yes, let's ignore that he hasn't passed even 60 in 39 other international innings just because of that one innings. We might not have a Sunny Gavaskar left but that's no reason to keep recalling such a god awful batsman.

I don't have high hopes for Vijay BUT this is his first test since 2010 if I'm not mistaken. He deserves a decent run before making a judgement on him. We can't pick players for 1 or 2 games and expect them to be good from the get go. Lets see how Vijay goes in the next game.
