Neglecting Ojha seems trivial to the squad Azhar had in the 96 Eng tour. The entire squad of 16 had 2 seamers in Srinath & Prasad along with 4 leggies (Kumble, Raju, Hirwani & Mhambrey). I don't know how much role a captain had in those days wrt squad selection but there's rarely been such a retarded squad. BTW Azhar wasn't very different from what Dhoni is now in terms of test record: the best until that time and tiger/lamb home & abroad analogy. I can't tell how people vote for Dhoni or Azhar considering most of us haven't seen Wadekar/Bedi/Gavaskar/Kapil as captain.

Was the 3rd seamer and Ankola was the 4th seamer. We had a huge bowling contingent 4 seamers, 4-5 spinners but then besides the tests, we played some 7-8 FC matches too.

That is exactly the reason why kiwis rolled out green-tops for the series. In fact occasionally it was difficult to separate pitch from the outfield. When you have such conditions' date=' the gap between the batsmen, or batting lineups, is reduced considerably and batting becomes cr@pshoot. Kiwis banked on the fact that their seamers headed by Bond will make better use of conditions than Indian seamers and that's how it turned out. On a pitch giving equal chance to both batsmen and bowlers, Indian batsmen may have made a difference but on those pitches I can't really blame the batting lineup. ICC should have stepped in and investigated the pitches with the same zeal they reserve for sub-continental turning tracks. If Mumbai pitch in 2004 was bad, so was the pitch where both the teams were rolled out for under 100 in their respective 1st innings.[/quote'] Greentops or grasslands, that great batting line up did its reputation no good on that tour. The worst part was to see the likes of Tuffey, Oram, Styris bowling gentle swing and seam and our batsmen unable to do anything. Still remember some crappy 8 over a side match with some weird rules we played as the practice match for test series!

The toss was crucial on those pitches and we lost both tosses. New Zealand took a gamble with those wonderbras and it paid off.

Super Max or Cricket Max invented my Martin Crowe - http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/story/67577.html Do you remember who top scored in that game? :--D

Dhoni leading here. I can't believe that he is rated lower than a cheater.
thats bcoz the question asked is'' worst indian captain u have seen''..many may have starting watching cricket since 2000 or thereabout and have not seen azhar captain but they have seen plenty of dhoni though :giggle:

Azhar's captaincy overall was not so bad, considering the fixing. He was very good captain material

I don't care if someone is that dumb that a fixer and a guy who cheated his country is better for them over the guy who always gives his 100% for the country and tries his level best.
Fair point. But this poll was about captaincy, so ignored cheating bit. If I have to choose between Azhar and Dhoni, I'll go for Dhoni every single time. But I rate Dhoni very low for test cricket b'coz he has scant regard for test cricket. I wonder if India doing well in test cricket outside SC is even there in Dhoni's list of priorities.

What was good about Azhar's captaincy? He was just routine.
To start with, he took the bold decision of giving Sachin Tendulkar opening opporunity in ODI in NewZealand. Which eventually gave cricketing world the greatest ODI player on planet.

Wasn't it Tendulkar himself who asked for that position? Hardly anything in Azhar's captaincy. It was just like his post-match statements - "Boys, played very well and Sachin played very well" to any question asked. :giggle:

Dravid most successful Kumble the worst (tactically his decisions sometimes just baffled many and also had one of the poor phases in otherwise strong Indian period)

I am pretty sure Dhoni would have still been chosen as the worst if Sachin was there in the options. :hatsoff:
 My vote shouldn't be considered. I was watching the match and Moses or Cowan was taking easy singles, got pissed and voted for MS straight away. Heat of the moment. :giggle:
