A lot of players just couldn't break into the Indian team because of the settled middle order of Dravid, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Laxman. We know about the likes of Amol Muzumdar, Sridharan Sriram,etc There's also Mithun Manhas of Delhi, who until recently had a fairly decent average in FC. In List A, he still averages 47. That's why when you get an opportunity, you gotta make the most of it.

If we are looking at players in the past as well, then there are 2 Maharashtra players who played side-by-side: Surendra Bhave - avg of 58 over a long career Shantanu Sugwekar - averaged even more at 63 :omg: but was never in contention for a place in the Indian team.

Another one I can think about is Pankaj Dharmani. He had the best average for a wicket-keeper-batsman in his era, yet he was hardly considered for the Indian team despite the team needing a wicket-keeper who could bat. Only got one ODI and got to bat very late in the order.
