Detonator Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 thread is getting awfully derailed  just ignore the troll and stick to the topic. :hitler: yes, srinath the best fast bowler we have produced, after Kapil.
Lord Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 It mean 11-1 after next summer. 5-0 in Ashes 1-1 against SL (maybe) 5-0 to India in July you know your maths :nice:
vvvslaxman Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 It mean 11-1 after next summer. Then why are you ranked below us? care to explain :cantstop:
Pakistan Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 India's greatest ever era was between 2000-10' date=' you're greatest ever batsmen and bowlers and yet you still have an inferior record to England in that time. The reasons England struggled between 1975-2000 was because there were no central contracts. Players were interested in their county then England. [b']It a bit like the England football team. If they were contracted to play just for England we'd have won 3 or 4 more football world cups. The British dominated football in the 30's when money wasn't an issue. What does that tell you? You guys actually overachieve in football based on your populations and experience. You did not dominate football in 30s. Tiny Uruguay won 1924 Olympics, 1928 Olympics, 1930 World Cup and Italians won the next two World Cup in 1934 and 1938. English domination you are talking about was about beating the home nations.

special K Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Then why are you ranked below us? care to explain :cantstop: India fix the rankings. Beat windies at home to jump over us whilst we have to play Aus away.

express bowling Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Win/loss the last 30 years, Let's include just since 2000, or the overall win/loss ratio of both sides. England's worst ere ever was between 1975-2000, when they were a weak team. See it's easy to pull out statistics that favour your country. Overall win/loss ratio, you're behind Sri Lanka. Also you've never won in SA or Aus, England's won a series in every country since 2000 alone. Overall the 2nd most successful test nation after Aus. Our cricket players get bored once they hit 30. Once you've won the test cricket world cup ( the ashes) there's not much else to achieve, so the hunger goes. The reason I have quoted the statistics of the last 30 years and also the last 20 years is because these are both sufficiently long periods and represent the times in cricket history with the most number of strong as well as diverse teams playing test cricket. It represents the PROFESSIONAL PERIOD in the game's history. These two time periods give the fairest representation of all teams playing each other over a length of time, culminating in the present. Even if you consider the last 10 years, the win/loss ratio of the two countries is almost the same. Considering the overall record makes no sense. Cricket wasn't a professional game for almost 80 or 90 years. It was an amateur's game dominated by English Lords and their like for a long time, with little competition. England did well as long as the game was for amateurs and there was no competition. The moment tough competition came, England receded to the background. You guys have never even won an ODI World Cup. We have won two. It is idiotic to call the Ashes ,test world cup. Only two teams compete. Even in that, you lost 0-5. In the professional era, you have been humiliated in the Ashes overall. The logic of getting bored and retiring after 30 looks pretty lame after being ordinary players in their 20s.
Muloghonto Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Nobody really cares about the ashes. Cricket now begins and ends with india. Ashes exist because we allow it to. Over the last 20 yrs if any matchups can b called test world championships, it'd b india-pakistan for popularity and intensity or ind-aus/aus-rsa for the highest quality. Ashes is old tradition we allow to exist Sent from my GT-S5830D using Tapatalk 2
alexander Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 The base reality is that teams go through good and bad patches. India are at this time enjoying a period of good cricketing health. When I was a boy, India were a weak team in the 1980s through the 1990s. 2000 - has been good for Indian cricket. I disagree with SK that we were weak in the 1980s. Everyone lost to West Indies in the 1980s, but otherwise we won and lost with some balance. The 1990s were the weakest period ever in English test cricket. At this time, this generation, broadly speaking WI , New Zealand and Pakistan are comparatively weak compared to the teams of my youth. Aus went from ok to amazing to very good, we are overall a good side now.
alexander Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Nobody really cares about the ashes. Simply not true. A-E is still the biggest event in the Aus/Eng cricketing calender. India v Pakistan holds interest only for people from those lands.
alexander Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 5-0 in Ashes 1-1 against SL (maybe) 5-0 to India in July you know your maths :nice: :giggle: Not even the biggest Indian fan would back that claim.

India v Pakistan holds interest only for people from those lands. Again, a few million cricketing fans from nations where cricket is not even the top 2 viewed sport, kinda does count as 'nobodies' in the face of hundreds of millions of fans who stay stuck to the tv for india-pakistan.

These were diehard crickets fans who would sit up in the early hours to watch Pakistan/India, travel all over the world, but admit it's nothing compared to the rivalry of the ashes. I think there's a lot of envy by Indians/paks, they now they'll never be able to contest in the real cricket world cup which is the ashes.

That sounds like a complete lie to me - only Brits and Aussies want to keep making it sound like that; for Indian and Pakistanis nothing even comes close to India-Pak matches
