thats some wharped logic. The IPL needs 90 foreign players. Out of which England is ruled out due to issues with counties, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe are ****, Pakistan is ruled out due to political issues. That leaves players from NZ SA, Aus WI and SL to fill the bulk of those places. Can you name those "quality" players in australian domestic league?
explain me why IPL is filled with so man aussies? Not just IPL...bpl and slpl also saw a lot of Aussie players.

the ipl teams have won 2 of the 4 champions league titles. Thats good in my book. In 2011 the champions league final was an all ipl affair.
And how many have Australian teams won with the handicap of a smaller representation and IPL teams playing their first choice 4, sometimes 5, foreign players? What about 3 consecutive knocked out before knockouts from the WT20 after IPL came into existence?

I thought you didnt take T20 seriously. Why do you care if India was knocked out from WT20s or not ? :P

I think Champions League is a farce and a rigged tournament in favor of IPL teams. 3 or 4 IPL teams automatically qualify for the tournament whereas some other clubs have to qualify just to be in teh tournament. Plus, all the international players that play in IPL are expected to play for their IPL teams in Champtions League. It's a lame tourney the Champions league.

that is irrelevant. A good team will win regardless of how many other from that country are represented. When Chennai lifted the first trophy there were 2 Indian teams (same as SA and Aus) when Mumbai lifted it there were 3. Quite frankly that is one of the weakest arguments i have heard, the fate of each team is independent of its compatriots. When the IPL is played is also a bit irrelevant. The likes of Dhoni, Yuvraj and even Bhajji have lifted the cup and are currently playing in the IPL. By far the team of 2007 was extremely young and most of the 15 are playing in the IPL. That makes 15 world cup winners. That is the quality. In contrast there is not a single Aussie who has won the T20 world cup and amount of T20 world cup winners playing in the big bash league are barely 10. Of the last T20 world cup final some 15-16 players are taking part in the IPL (they hail from the Windies and SL). How many are taking part in the Big Bash league? The answer is 5 among 8 teams. I think its bit of a myth that the quality of cricket is somehow better than the IPL. There are more world cop winners and world cup finalists playing as a % of the total players on display than the big bash league.

i just explained it to you. the lack of english and pakistani players mean franchises have to pick australians to fill the quota of 10 players. the question you should be asking yourself is how many of those picked actually get enough games in the ipl? The players you have listed are mostly seat warmers there to fulfill the ipl rules and cover for injury. There are about 10-12 Aussies who get games for their franchises on a regular basis. Another reason for Aussie players keep getting picked is cause the bulk of the coaches are of aussie decent. Hence they pick the players from their state associations.

and to further back my argument, Dan christian basically highlights the "strength" or lack there of the BBL. In australia these players are probably good. Not in the subcontinent. So how do you compare quality of the IPL played in the subcontinent to that of the BBL played in the conditions of bounce? The sooner the franchises get over hiring aussies coaches the sooner the IPL franchises can rid themselves of these second rate Aussies like Dan christian. I am pretty sure if India had normal relations with Pakistan some 30% of IPL players would be Pakistani as they would be most likely to be a hit in subcontinental conditions. and world cup performances are also one thing. The other are the rankings. I do believe that there are an equal amount of south africans in the IPL and they have been pretty poor in T20 world cups in general. Why are they playing in the IPL and Big bash league in large numbers? Its simple, to feel a gap which cannot be filled.

India hasn't even made the knockouts of the WT20 since IPL began. IPL teams have a very mediocre performance in CL as well' date=' despite having such a high representation.[/quote'] Poor logic but that's always expected from you.

That's the only relevant bit - teams with a handicap have been able to dominate IPL teams. With such a large participation and bias in selecting players, IPL teams still suck is an indictment of the poor quality of cricket in the league. In fact you just need to watch a random match with random players to understand the abysmal quality on show.

The australian and south african teams (who have never really dominated) basically lose one player or so and have enough foreign players of their own. Thats it. Now if you dont have the strength and depth to replace one player the issue is at your end. As i said before, the argument of "large participation" does not make any sense considering the likes of chennai won the champions league in SA with only 2 Indian teams in the fray. MI won the champions league on the basis of large set of injuries to key players like Sharma and Tendulkar. That tells you we won with a huge handicap of our own. Last years Champions league was an issue the local players were not ready for south african conditions. But I think this year in India the ipl teams will be more than up for it. The BBL might have more quality if it was split 6 ways. But 8 teams means you personally need to watch the cricket on show. The quality has drastically declined. Even Mark Waugh alluded to it and recommended that they dont stretch it beyond 8 teams for the quality. Do the math Australia, has 6 state associations. It cannot carry 8 BBL teams without there being a drastic loss in quality. That and the current state of their rankings in world T20 cricket tell me that the BBL being a quality league is a myth.

If its quality cricket that you're looking for, T20 is not the place. What people are looking for is competition (in terms of how close games are), entertainment and an overall feel good factor. And the IPL scores big on all these counts. And the IPL still has the biggest names in cricket plying their trade.

I have no arguments on those points - I start to get concerned when crap like this is touted as the stepping stone for international cricket, which is at a completely different level as demonstrated by India's 3 consecutive second round exits.

maybe cause you read through and did not have any answers? Does the probability of a chennai or mumbai winning the champions league increase or decrease with the number of Indian teams increasing or decreasing? The mathematical and scientific answer is no. Each team is judged as per its on strengths. How do you explain no south african team ever winning the champions trophy? Even as a ratio to their representation they have been poor.

IPL is the best T20 tourney because some of the best players in the world play in it and is a much more of a commerical success. The Indian team's performance cannot be linked to the success of IPL or the quality of IPL , just as the English Football team's performance cannot be linked to the EPL. IPL is simply great entertainment. As a bonus you get to see some great cricket too.
