Texan Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Yes' date=' also I heard he scored bucket load of runs in some recent series, but I am sure your reasoning is more logical.[/quote'] That was a Test series, not ODIs. They are too totally different formats.
G_B_ Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 That was a Test series' date=' not ODIs. They are too totally different formats.[/quote'] yeah so if mooli is picked for the champions trophy and then fails big time. Will he be dropped for the tests v SA? or are the TN fans going to come up with the argument that ODIs and Tests are different. What an abysmal shot he played today.
yoda Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 That was a Test series' date=' not ODIs. They are too totally different formats.[/quote'] Yes it is revolutionary to pick a player for ODIs based on test performance. BTW I also heard that he scored runs in Challenger trophy, but then again it is not ODIs, so my bad. :winky:
vvvslaxman Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 kohli has only scored 168 from his last 8 innings. Rohit sharma only scored 104. similar story with kartik and vijay. Its pretty harsh to say yuvi and gambho is done after only 8 matches where all of our superstars stuggled apart from raina dhoni and sir jaddu who batter lower and faced the new ball less. If everyone was failure in such a scenario you would back players with bit of some kind of form in any format. Backing a recovering 32 year old or Backing a 26 year old.. You have to make the judgemental call there. I will be surprised if Yuvraj plays another world cup. In gambhir's case did you follow how he plays cricket these days? Mr Pokemon just doesn't get going these days. Rohit sharma selection is purely based on IPL.
Sidhoni Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Looking at it again in a calmed down state of mind, team is not that bad. Yuvi, Shami and Rahane in for Vijay, Ishant and Mishra would have been really good. I am hoping the latter won't find a place in the eleven.

True but I don't know if vijay and kartik are the best replacments and rohit just hasn't done much is ODIs. since I never liked yuvi playing at number 4 I think it would be between yuvi and jadeja and I still think out of form yuvi is a better batsman at number 8 than infrom jadeja. Although jadeja might be a better bowler. Yuvi did bowl extremely well in t20 world cup so I think he still has value as a limited overs all rounder. On the other side its good you finnaly see the tailunt of the rohit. Im just not sure he is a good ODI batsman.

M Vijay is just not fit for One dayers even on flat pitches let alone seaming tracks and slopy tracks. I hope he doesn't get to play. If you look at technique of all young batsmen everyone has this "abroad" syndrome. So it is puerly a gamble if you ask me.
maniac Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Rohit is the biggest blunder.and he will be in the XI. English conditions will seperate the men from the boys and rohit from the rest of the pretenders
Lord Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 English conditions will seperate the men from the boys and rohit from the rest of the pretenders wanna bet?.Rohit wont average more than 25

Texan Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Yes it is revolutionary to pick a player for ODIs based on test performance. I'll make the same argument in a different way. If he fails in CT, should he be dropped from the Test side?
Sooda Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Vijay seems to struggle with the changes in formats. He seems to have tightened up and gotten over the loose shots mode for the Aus tests but now he cant seem to accelerate in T20's, whereas before he could go hell for leather- at least in the IPL- and had the tendency to do the same in test cricket with airy drives outside off and thrwo his wicket away
daryl1985 Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Just realised, Gambhir dropped and Vijay is in. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:
Number Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Count me in. :good: Rohit will avg. 35+ if he plays more than 2 games. He may hit a 100. Remember WI are in our group.:P
yoda Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I'll make the same argument in a different way. If he fails in CT' date=' should he be dropped from the Test side?[/quote'] Dude, how did Yuvraj come to the tests side? Based on ODI performance. How did Kaif get to tests? Based on ODI peformance. Why do people want Dhawan to be in the ODI side? Based on recent performance in test series. Let me repeat, it is not uncommon to pick people for one international format based on performance in the other international format. It is a better yardstick than domestics. Yes Vijay has sucked in ODIs in past. He did very well in recent test series and from I read recent challenger series. We are looking for openers, so it is not as outlandish that he is picked for ODIs. I would have preferred if they had kept Rahane in the ODI side instead of bringing in Vijay now, as Rahane did not get enough chances to prove himself in ODIs. May be Dhoni and the selectors felt Rahane needs to go back to domestics and come back later.

Yuvraj picked in Tests based on ODI performances --> flops in Tests, great player in ODIs Kaif picked in Tests based on ODI performances --> Again a flop in Tests, Okay in ODIs Raina picked in Tests based on ODI performances --> Super Duper Flop in Tests, good player in ODIs And then there are the players who do well in Tests, but not ODIs. VVS Laxman --> Great player in Tests, flop in ODIs There are very few batsmen who can make the transition across all formats of the game. I am not against picking players across formats, but Vijay has had his fair share of chances in ODIs and T20s and he hasn't even managed to reach a 50 in either formats. It is a known fact that he struggles to make a transition. If he gets picked for LOIs, he tends to carry that same mindset to Tests and then gets out trying to hit an extravagant shot. I think it would have been best in the Indian team's interest and also Vijay's interest to let him fortify his place in the Test team with some consistent performances before thrusting him into ODIs once again.
