My Current Problem: I started facing some games played against me after i started handling the onsite team in korea. In short , there are 12 guys in my team and 2 leads ( including me ). Other lead is an ex-army guy and he is 13 or 14 years older than me ( but same designation ). But my korean mgrs think he is my lead. He is technically very very weak. My manager and other lead were playing together. So many issues raised against the other lead by the other teams has been ignored. Now they both tried to move me out of the team by offering me biscuits and by other means. Now i got some solid proofs against other lead and my manager abt manipulating things. If i go for a full fledged war , they both will be in serious trouble. I migth also get bad name among other big guys in the company for fighting aggressively. I am planning to escalate it to my skip level manager ( he hates my manager to core ). Any inputs abt how to make a move here ??

Sounds like a typical office politics. Is your manager Indian too. Raise your voice to youskip level manager only if you know u r hundred percent right or else ur manager n skip level manager will use you as a bait for their own politics.. As per the other lead guy sometimes acting or perceived as a manager, u have to understand tht he is bit older n at that stage you don't feel like taking orders from you colleagues who are lot younger n are at same org level

Focus on work. Politics is reality anywhere you go, only the extent varies. Arthashatra. It best self help guide in these situations. I was advised keep your emotions away from work place. NEVER react, always try and respond. Never attack somebody personally, even if somebody does it you, long term it will serve you well. People are essentially trying to provoke each other. That is really only excitement generally at work place. Be aware and on guard for that. Having nothing to lose approach is ideal scenario. But I can see why it is difficult for people. But it relaxes you.

From my experience of visiting Japan/South Korea, I found their societies to be extremely patriarchal - i.e. seniority calls the shots. Unless you are absolutely sure you can nail that bastard who is giving you a hard time, take the money and leave. I would.

Velu, just leave mate. They will initiate a lot of processes/tribunals but in the end, they will not take any real action against that miserable old fart. If all else fails, try bribing him with vodka (soju), see if that does the trick :winky:

That's probably the bigger problem if you ask me. Most of us deal with office politics but what's helped me has been shutting it out when I'm out of office after 12 hrs and having most weekends off. Dealing with it day in & day out without any leave will give multiple problems including your health.

I'm sick of double signing contract paper when I join for new projects. One that I can have for my satiffaction, other that I had to sign on folded paper which I dont know what it says. I'm sure my remuneration stated way higher there than my actual one, these corporate admins allways likes to steal tax money thru my salary over-statements.

I don't know about the other lead, but you seem to have a bit of some ego. Change your attitude and the group. Focus on the job in hand leaving out some of the judgmental stuff out of professional life. You will do good. Cheers.
