channel 9 commentators Bill Lawry, Benaud and Tony Grieg are my favorites. Holding and Bumble are good too. From India it has to be Gavaskar and Harsha Bhogle.

Bill Lawry, Benaud, Greig before becoming India hater, Bumble, Nasser Hussein(:--D), Bhogle, Gavaskar to some extent, Ian Chappell, Nicholas at times. I generally don't like ex cricketers from subcontinent because most of them lack English skills and keep repeating the same stuff over and over again.

Benaud, Lawry, Cozier, Shastri & Boycs. Shastri, Cozier and Benaud are the best callers of the game ( ie, actually calling the plays instead of just saying 'he hit the ball through the covers....you know Jack when he was young 2 years ago he did blahblah' every single time).

Yep, but atleast he calls the game. Bhogle too IMO but Bhogle reminisces too much instead of just focusing on the game at hand. Benaud, Cozier, Shastri....they are the kind of comms you wont need a tv to follow the game because they call the game good old 'radio days' style, where people used to call and describe every single play. Nowadays, there is too much BS reminiscing and 'analysis' thrown in.

Personally, when I am watching a game on TV I don't really need a person to call every play. I want someone who is passionate about the game(Bill Lawry is the gold standard here), can provide good insights, speak reasonably well and not monotonous. To his credit Shastri scores well on the first three criteria but fails horribly on the last one. He has been using the same phrases and sentences for the last 17-18 years that I have watched cricket on TV. I think you know what I am talking about. Now it has reached a point that I find it really hard to take any more of that.
