vvvslaxman Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Anderson and Watson lift the lid on Ashes team-mates: Who's got the worst taste in music, who's the prankster... and who is called Shrek? By JAMES ANDERSON and SHANE WATSON The waiting for the start of the Ashes is almost over — and the battles between James Anderson, one of the best fast bowlers in the world, and destructive Aussie opener Shane Watson will be central to the destiny of the famous urn. Here, Mail on Sunday columnist Anderson gives the inside track on the men who will wear the Three Lions over the coming weeks. Just who is the funniest, the weirdest and who’s the best golfer? And, before Anderson thinks he’s got off lightly, the paceman also found out this week what Joe Root thinks of him. ‘I haven’t known Joe long, but he obviously feels he knows me well enough to have bought me a present last week,’ said Anderson. ‘I was genuinely excited when he told me until I opened up the package and discovered a T-shirt with the word “Grumpy†on it. I guess it’s obvious why I got it! It shows that Rooty is as cheeky as his 12-year-old face suggests.’ Watson, meanwhile, reveals which member of the Australian team is into remote-controlled planes and why the touring party have to dine out at vegetarian restaurants. JIMMY ANDERSON ON ENGLAND Alastair Cook: Age 28 Tests 92 Runs 7,524 His greatest attribute is his amazing temperament. Went to public school, an opening bat and comes from the south, and has always been captain material. Joe Root: Age 22 Tests 6 Runs 424 Acts as young as he looks off the pitch. Sweet but also cheeky and loveable, like a kid with a catapult. Batting, though, he’s more like a 30-year-old. Reminds me of a young Alastair Cook. Jonathan Trott: Age 32 Tests 41 Runs 3,252 Just loves churning out runs. Could be described as a bit weird sometimes. Very OCD with his kit, too. It’s really not a good idea to move any of it. He’ll know. Kevin Pietersen: Age 33 Tests 94 Runs 7,499 No one wants bowl at KP. A key, key player in our team and when he scored 177 in his comeback game it was very good news for us, and very bad for Australia. Ian Bell: Age 31 Tests 88 Runs 5,925 The most aesthetically-pleasing batsman in the team. Quiet in the dressing room but a prankster, although he always says it’s never him. He and Root seem to have teamed up well. Jonny Bairstow: Age 23 Tests 8 Runs 241 Very talented player who can read the situation well when batting and can be very exciting to watch when required. Lots of energy in the field too. Graeme Swann: Age 34 Tests 52 Wickets 222 On dry pitches against all those Australian left-handers he could be a pivotal player. The funniest man in the squad, he lifts all our spirits. Mind you, he’s been a right pain in recent weeks when not playing. He’s been sent out of the dressing room a number of times like a schoolboy. Steven Finn: Age 24 Tests 22 Wickets 88 Can be genuinely quick with good bounce, he’s aggressive and can be a bit chirpy, too. Off the field he’s an easy target, I’m afraid. Very sweet and never seems to learn. At its worst when he tells us about his dates. Swanny can be merciless. Tim Bresnan: Age 28 Tests 18 Wickets 57 An even easier target as he tries to come back at you but isn’t quite quick-witted enough to pull it off. A good team man, never lets you down. Coach: Andy Flower Has a lot of respect from the team for his career as a player and coach. Very successful and demands the highest of standards. Happy to celebrate success but the next morning is already planning ahead. SHANE WATSON ON AUSTRALIA Chris Rogers: Age 35 Tests 1 Runs 19 Buck is the team newbie yet one of the most experienced, with a first-class average of over 50 after 15 years. His knowledge of English conditions is invaluable. Ed Cowan: Age 31 Tests 17 Runs 987 Extremely meticulous with his preparation. The most intelligent in our team by a country mile. Love of books and general knowledge puts the rest of us to shame. Phil Hughes: Age 24 Tests 24 Runs 1,452 Has scored big runs in domestic cricket. Hasn’t really done it yet against England but they know he’s a player who could explode. Quiet but cheeky off the pitch, looking to wind up team-mates. Michael Clarke: Age 32 Tests 92 Runs 7,275 Pup makes Ed look messy. Has everything — shoes, gloves, bat — in place. No one would dare touch them, not even as a joke. He’s been in the form of his life for two years. Likes his early nights and is always up at the crack of dawn. David Warner: Age 26 Tests 19 Runs 1,263 Davey the pocket rocket who always puts on a show when he bats. Has terrible taste in music. Known as Bull. Brad Haddin: Age 35 Tests 44 Runs 2,308 An old-school Aussie. It’s great to have him back for his experience, leadership and attitude. Doesn’t eat much before a game and gets very nervous. Peter Siddle: Age 28 Tests 41 Wickets 150 Nice guy off the pitch, wholehearted on it. A vegetarian now, so we have to go for a team meal to a place that serves veggie food. Gets lots of stick as a result. James Pattinson: Age 23 Tests 10 Wickets 40 Lots of energy, lots of pace and can swing the ball both ways. Keep away from him off the pitch, though. A serial prankster always getting up to mischief. Nathan Lyon: Age 25 Tests 22 Runs 76 Easy-going country boy from the cherry capital of New South Wales. Hard being a spinner in the wake of Warne, but if Swann can get a lot out of the pitches this series, so can our man. Ryan Harris: Age 21 Tests 12 Wickets 47 Has had success against England and will be confident of more. Loves computer games and remote-controlled planes and cars. On tour he normally finds an open space to play with his toys. Steve Smith: Age 24 Tests 7 Runs 420 Good with the ball, even better with the bat, can play any type of international cricket. Expecting big things. Quiet off the pitch, although he loves tinting his hair and dressing up to look sharp. Coach: Darren Lehmann Boof is one of the most talented players and now coaches I have known, a real people person who is intent on both winning and making sure his players enjoy themselves. He thinks he looks like Bruce Willis. Others say Shrek.

Clarke Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Quite some time now and Siddle's diet has been a huge talking point in Australia for at least 2+ years. How does he bowl phasstt without the red meat/camel milk ? I suppose loads of supplements.
G_B_ Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 A lot of people dont realize but plant protein you get from pulses are superior to animal protein. Biggest issue with plant protein is you need to consume lots of it. Siddle probably eats a lot of pulses.
