MS Dhoni - Greatest finisher ever

well summarized the risk/reward calculation by Dhoni.
and you dont become a finisher by just throwing your bat or by hitting the ball, you need to have these calculations your mind, otherwise, even Afridi would claim that he is the best finisher in the game because he can hit even longer than Dhoni.

Dhoni always takes safety first option then looks to attack later only if it is total necessity.multiple reasons i feel are he has limited strokes in his repertoire which he can play without taking undue risk and he wants to take game as far as possible and hope for best.He does the same with his captaincy too. I don't like Dhoni's approach chances of failure are more, it is just it has come off in recent times, but if any cares to remember he took the same approach in a T20 match against NZ before but failed.

tht match was yuvraj's comeback match if i remember right. imo india lost mainly due to yuvraj - he wasn't able to run dhoni's runs , also got out in the last over n india lost by 1 run.

Just because he won it does not mean it is the right thing to do, Ishant Sharma had to survive one full over, and Dhoni faced the same bowler 45th over but took single first ball and let Kumar face whole over. As I said Dhoni likes to stretch the game as long as possible and hope for best.

Yes - that NZ T20I was primarily lost due to Dhoni not putting a foot on the accelerator. By the same logic, just because we lost doesn't mean it's the wrong thing to do either.

no it does not but Dhoni's logic of dragging the game as long as possible and not attacking at key moments has hurt India especially as a captain if not as batsman.

In this thread: people arguing with results. You would do better to study this guy and apply it his mindset in your own professional life than nitpicking like bottom-feeders on whether something is halal or wise. :hehe:

For starters, this thread is about Dhoni the batsman and NOT Dhoni the captain. As a batsman, there is no conclusive evidence to show that X is better than Y. It is all about the comfort level of the batsmen at the crease. Games have been won as well as lost; by attacking at "key moments".

Like Raina went on to attack at key moment and if not for Dhoni, that Raina's dismissal could have proved to be reason of our loss. Raina has done this several times while chasing. His ultra-aggressive approach is a double edged sword. Remember that SRT 175 game. Raina and SRT had a great partnership and we were going fine, at one point needed just 6 rpo on flat surface around 51 runs in 48 balls and suddenly Raina decided to hoick Clint McKay to cow corner and top edge went into the hands of short third man and we went on to lose that match.

Thanks - hence, this "key moments" theory is pure BS. It can go either ways - it is easy for us sitting on our comfortable couches sipping sweetened water to call what the "key moments" are.
