Bleed-Blue Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 So many posts on Gambhir. Lets go back to the player whom he was praising. :agree:
cowboysfan Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 GG should be aiming for next year,he has to be able to show he has overcome his technical problems and score heaps of runs in the ranjis.
Silva Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Dhoni's was the easily the better knock at a far superior SR to Gambhir.Upped the SR when Gambhir was stuggling to keep of the pressure and carried India after Gambhir once again typically choked. At the end of 30th over the Req Run Rate was well above 6 an over with us still needing 125 runs. After that Gambhir scored 21 from 28 balls and Dhoni scored 79 from 58 balls. Why is it that so many Dhoni fans are quick to bash other indian players? Theirs alot of bs about India being a mediocre team without dhoni. Dhonis the best ODI wicketkeeper in the world but his contribution in comparison to the othe indian players in the World cup champions trophy and t20 wins is not that big.
maniac Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 India really need gambhir in top form' date=' especially in Test..still remember h[b']is teriffic partenership with sachin against saffas in that capetown test..we really need that gambhir who could see off such spells of fast bowling and not the one who just keep on poking at anything outside the off stump!! Exactly and to add his contribution in the 2 WC wins....DHoni goes and bashes Loins, time and again and may be an odd inconsequential victory here and there and he is hailed as the G.O.A.T. I call total BS on that one. In most clutch matches ,Gambhir,Yuvraj,Kohli and even Raina have outshone him.

How exactly is that bashing? Gambhir attemted 3 suicidal runout attempts in 3 balls in a row before getting out in the QF. How exactly u describe that apart from chocking? Or his suicidal run out in CB series final? Or his stupid run out in the CT match vs Pak? Or his runout in the 2010 Asia cup final? Yep these are just coincidences and i am making up stuff to bash him
Trundler27 Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 This is dhawan's time..... gambhir is done for now unless he can prove some form in ranji cricket next season or perhaps play county cricket in england (but he won't do that imo). When all is said and done, I'm sure that we are going to retain Dhawan and Mooli as our openers for the first few tests of the SAF tour or longer unless they display poor form and the team crashes to heavy defeats. In odi's too there isn't sufficient reason to displace the dhawan/nohit combo for the time being. So this debate is futile. Let's hope our 'new' openers do well and get settled.

He scored 90+ in the final a 50 in the quarter final and scored in the final of the t20 cup. Thats not the the record of someone who is constantly choking. MSD on the other hand despite playing 4 world t20 3 champions trophies and 2 world cups has how many fifites? 1? Despite the fact that he's constantly being talked about as the one of the greatest limited overs players based on his IPL and sri lankan exploits his record in big tournaments is abyssal. Is that not more of a record of a choker? IMO their both world class players.
SLICKR392 Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Going by the logic, did Sachin choke in the '03 WC game against Pakistan? :giggle:

If he got out right after Sachin then it would have meant he was not good enough.Thats different from Chocking. He was got out due to stupid decision makings (Brain fart )when he was set and playing well.Thats why he chocked MSD on the other hand despite playing 4 world t20 3 champions trophies and 2 world cups has how many fifites? 1? Despite the fact that he's constantly being talked about as the one of the greatest limited overs players based on his IPL and sri lankan exploits his record in big tournaments is abyssal. Who said MSD has a great record in ICC tournaments or is our best bat in ICC tourmanents? Neither is Gambhir for that matter. That would be Sachin Ganguly and Yuvi by a long distance.Dhoni or Gambhir nowhere close to them. But on an individual level his 97 in WC is one of our greatest knocks.Doesnt whether it came against Bangladesh or Sri Lanka but it came in a world cup final while chasing and he saw it through and finished of the match.
MCcricket Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Odi Sehwag Gambhir Dhawan Virat Rohit Yuvi Rayudu Pujara Dhoni Bk Ashwin Jadeja Mishra Umesh Aaron Mohit Should Be The Best Squad When Fit N In Form Test Squad Gambhir Dhawan Sehwag Vijay Rohit Virat Pujara Rayudu Irfan DHONI Jadeja Ashwin Bk Umesh Ishant Shami Zak I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SAHA IN THE TEST SQUAD AS A KEEPER, VERY GOOD BAT , DECENT KEEPER, GOOD TECHNIQUE, TEPERAMENT, UNLUCKY. Irfan If Fit Can Fit In As A Left Handed Seamer And A Decent Bat, Kaul, Shami Can Be Looked At Along With Pankaj As A Test Bat, Main Concern Is The Seam Dept, Batting Is Decent, Bowling A Bit Weak, Need Impact Seam Bowlers.

I guess choking is subjective although I think gambhir did choke in the quarterfinal but not in the final. I think he just lost concentration. As for gambhir making it back to the squad IMO the number 4th spot is still open and rohit and raina are a couple of bad series away from behing dropped so its still a huge possibility. In test matches he might get in if vijay fails but after vijay theirs Rohit and maybe rahane.
BeautifulGame Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Serious question? Does anyone really think Sehwag can succeed in England or SA with his technical deficiencies when he is 36 , the same places where he got owned in the past tours even he was close to his best
maniac Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Serious question? Does anyone really think Sehwag can succeed in England or SA with his technical deficiencies when he is 36 , the same places where he got owned in the past tours even he was close to his best I think he is past his sell date but on topic he has a better chance of succeeding in South Africa then in England. In South Africa he will get atleast 1 or 2 pitches that might suit his game....Not calling him a FTB but he is a better chance of suceeding on Bouncy Surfaces when he gets it right than in overcast conditions. His average is poor but on more often than not he threw away his wicket after a start
MCcricket Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Sehwag N Gambhir Are World Class, Once Fit And In Form They Can Score Anywhere, I Have No Doubt Both Will Make A Good Comeback.
putrevus Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I always thought Gambhir was on his way in becoming an all time great opener and was much better player than Cook as he could spin much better but Gambhir proved it all wrong. This guy has some serious issues facing fast bowlers and cannot handle swing/bounce very well. He has everything you need in an opening batsman tenacity, grit and also can play attacking cricket but unless he sorts his technical issues.
putrevus Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Won't disagree on that. I am not one of those fans who forgets the failures and just remember the good days of players. Yes, Gambhir and Sehwag did suck. I think Sehwag kind of sucked more than Gambhir off late, but I still though Gambhir was fine for our test side. I mean he had a slump in ODI's but I still thought he could have been persisted with in tests. Anways, this is my belief that they will come back to test side soon or I should rather say I want them to comeback since they will be better options for us in test. It's not easy to dominate as an opener in test cricket. Hence I am saying, we might see some of these new comers perform in a series, but only time will decide how consistent they are over a period. As I said earlier, one bad overseas tour, and every player has to see the wrath of getting dropped. Same shall happen if they put themselves in a situation like that. I personally feel both Gambhir and Sehwag had a beef with Dhoni, when they both were going great and setting up all those wins and were instrumental in making India no1 but all the glory went to Dhoni. Even in the world cup final it was Gambhir who was man responsible for the win but Dhoni got all the accolades. That would have been fine if after 0-8 and 1-2 losses Dhoni got at least part of the blame but he walked scott free and started fresh with all youngsters in the side as if nothing happened and now with CT win he is the king and they are lying in doldrums. That said both of them needed to go and Sehwag might be done but Gambhir is young and is million times better than that dope Karthik who is masquerading as a middle order batsman.
