putrevus Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Because he has been one of the most consistent batsmen since he has started opening and big reason we won both CT and WI triseries. He did not go CT as a opener when vijay failed in warm up he was asked to take that role and if you call what Nohit did in last few matches as consistency then we have different barometer. Nohit in spite of being given so many chances is yet to show he can become big man and not be bits and pieces player who on his good day can score 50 runs. We need an opener who on his good days can win matches on his own and Nohit in his 100 plus odis has not shown that quality and his pathetic average is a testament to that fact. This is what Shane Watson was going thru making all those fifties and getting out when he was in form and now he cant buy a run. Mark of good batsman is making most of the good form they are in because everyone goes thru a lull period. If this is best Nohit can offer then he is not the one for future.
adi B Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Is he injured or something? How come Saha made into the XI when DK is already there. Rahane could have played. saha did not get a chance to play, should have shunted dk out for rahane..someone,someway or the other occludes rahane`s place in the starting 11. b/w nice pic, who` the chick :winky:
namasteji1 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I think he has been handled pretty well. Given a pretty long run vs England both at home and away and few matches against Pak, where he looked clueless against pacy bowlers.

NO

Let him try to get a county stint and attempt to make good of his deficiencies. You think keeping him on the bench is going to improve him v pacy bowler?

NO 17 matches and average of 26 with only one or two innings noticeable. Now that's not what you call grabbing the opportunities.

G_B_ Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 @nasamteji have you even read the opening post? cause your posts dont tally with what is being said. In one post you say he has been handled well. In the other you agree with my implication he has not been handled well.
G_B_ Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 Yeah both rahane and rohit its been some serious time spent on the bench - tests - and both have that bat pad gap issue which for a genuine top order bat is a concern. Not sure what to make of that they look elegant and then out of the blue get bowled so it is tricky in that sense. Am sure they will score a truck load of runs in the domestic circuit again but unless they address this one singular issue whether domestic in the nets wherever those stumps getting rattled will be on their minds rohit is slowly coming out of it though can see that he has a tighter technique now. which is why Rahane should have gone on a county stint this season. To correct his flaws. I am sure the coaches in the UK would have advised him on how to improve. Instead he is on the bench for Zim and India A with one innings to show for it
vvvslaxman Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Though i don't think he has a place in the ODI squad, it is unfair not to give him even a single chance on this tour.
namasteji1 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 @nasamteji have you even read the opening post? cause your posts dont tally with what is being said. In one post you say he has been handled well. In the other you agree with my implication he has not been handled well. I meant to say he's been given decent chances at int'l level and handled pretty well on that aspect. But i agree with your suggestion for him to play county cricket and sort out the problems.
G_B_ Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 Yeah if we are going down that road county stints are required for half of our squad :) will do them a lot of good quicks included. the thing is Rohit is playing a lot of matches. He has played 10-15 ODIs in the last 2 months. Maybe he does not have the time. Had Rahane been dropped from A tour and Zim ODIS he had the chance to approach a minor county and play for them. His career atm is going nowhere. this flaws are not being corrected and lack of playing time means he is rusty and lacking confidence. No win situation
Cricketics Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Yes he hasn't gotten the greatest of treatment, but at the level he i splaying, he still I would say, was giving plenty of chances and he has failed. He should have taken the opportunity like how Kohli sealed it. It was hard for Kohli to stay in the team but he kept scoring. Rahane kept giving his wicket away in 20s and 30s. He got to tour England and played in a full series there too. He has been around for long time. I guess longer format awaits him soon.
carnish Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Rahane has no future ... He is another Rohit from Mumbai ... Mumbai produces only talent these days, no temperament. :headshake:
Cricketics Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Don't compare Rahane to Rohit. Rahane is more sensible batsman than Rohit. Atleast he has shown so far and has performed better than Rohit for even Mumbai.

Both of them have immense potential ... but fail to convert them into results at the Intl. level.
SLICKR392 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Because he has been one of the most consistent batsmen since he has started opening and big reason we won both CT and WI triseries. What about before CT? Rohit had an absolute disaster of a series in SL and he gets a game against England when Rahane failed in 2 out of 3 games and gets dropped in the same series. And yes, he has age to his side but he gets benched for months and get picked and dropped/benched again. Its only going to affect his game and confidence.
saneindian Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 No need to have picked Raina who unfortunately is hogging a place. Other than Pujara, he was the only one who played all the matches, this despite having played 170 ODIs for India! Now he will continue to get a place in the FC squad as well and Rahane will warm the benches. Hopefully selectors add him to India A squad vs NZ A so that he gets to play regularly. And then he needs a big FC season unlike the last season where he was inconsistent.
vijay50 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Dhawan averaged 27 in WI. Rohit played well in both tournaments. They both had two 100 partnerships in CT. Problem is Rohit gets tired/loose focus once he is into his 30s and get out.

Agree.....I fear it was more like a ploy to get him in the S.A tour if he would have performed well.Hope it doesnt happen,Raina should never play in a test match again.Time to move on.
