so basically you saying Do Nothing if you can't do Everything... How does that makes sense? :dontknow: These guys are r simply doing what Best Possible they CAN do at their personal level according to their Beliefs and nothing wrong in that, I rather see it appreciable... I know their are 10s of complexities involved as you mentioned, you are right! and true that you can't satisfy EVERY single aspect associated with such thing but again does that mean don't even do what was very much possible for you?
SO you can follow 20 % of the religion while overlooking 80% of it, and still be taken seriously. It is difficult taking an idealistic stand in this world.

Point is do the Best possible you can whether it fulfills the core purpose 0.1% or 99.9%. Also I dont think he is making an Idealistic Stand to prove something infront of WHOLE WORLD. He is doing one small thing according to his belief just at personal level... Tell me... For example, according to my belief system interests/profit over money (soo'd u knw) prohibited and I want to completely avoid it but I see somehow in one form or the other its connected with almost every financial activity I make. I can avoid it in few areas where I had options or choice or even I don't have but with some effort I can create some possibility to avoid but in so many other areas I can't;not possible or too complex. Honestly would you suggest me? would you really suggest me to not even drop the possibilities I had? saying ahh rubbish what difference its gonna make with your belief since you are avoiding only 20% areas and still a part of 80%...

I agree. But when you take an idealist or fundamentalist position, there are bound be holes in your position when you don't go all the way. If you are not going all the way, then it is merely a token gesture or publicity stunt or just to satisfy your conscience for time being. I don't care for these token gestures. If he follows his religion at peace in his private life, then it is good enough. It is amazing that CA tolerates this BS. You have to integrate with the world.

Nothing wrong in practicing your religion or having ideals but the problem becomes when you impose on others to make adjustments

Please share how Fawad has "imposed adjustments" on the CA.

I think people here are overreacting, its his belief, he made a request and CA accepted it. Whats the big deal ? A vegetarian eats plants which are living beings, a vegetarian gulps pills when he needs to which may have all sorts of things. That doesn't mean he is just doing a show-off when he doesn't eat meat.

I think he didn't even do it. CA themselves proactively asked him as per CI article.

Is it only me or has recently there been a huge shift in how some practising Muslims follow their religion? Earlier it used to be about following their own beliefs. Now its more about making sure others are not influenced (ala not saying some words, avoiding advertisements which influence others, etc). Also, there is definitely an effort to show others how religious they are. So politicians, sportspersons, etc are more in the news for their religion than their work. Its not just enough to follow the right way, the entire world needs to know how much they love and follow their religion. This is the entire reason behind protests on Muhammad, etc, everyone just wants to show the world what great followers they are

Also seemingly an effort to gain more populaity and spread their religion. Look at cricket. Before a muslim player would get a ton and just wave his bat in the air. Now they get a ton and staright away on their hands and knees thanking allah in some massive public show to the world

^Was it not just Mohammed Yousuf who ever did that and Inzi maybe also. You get Christian players who cross themselves as a show of thanks to God- maybe not cricketers so much- but plenty in other sports. The principle here is the same, albeit more overt. Mo Farah always does a mini prostration after winning a race. So maybe its not 'to gain more popularity and to spread religion' but a genuine desire to thank God Having this logo on, like for Amla, would be in effect advertising it so he has requested to have it taken off with pretty good reason. This does not indicate an inability to adapt- Id suggest its the opposite, he feels comfortable- integrated- enough to want to practice his religion to the best of his ability. I think the fact that he is now playing cricket for the national team shows he has adpated pretty well As has been pointed out CA accepted his request so no drama as they say.

The very fact that He wouldn't wear a brand that promotes alcohol puts C.A in a spot of dielemma,if they drop him or deny-it's racism...they have no other choice but to honor his request, not that there is a choice there is it?

Not the first time someone is making a request and not the first time it was accepted as well. If you read the CI article, it is CA who has lobbied for Fawad's citizenship status. Please stop making it sound like Fawad has left CA with no choice. CA has an absolute choice to not pick Fawad and say NO to his request - Fawad can do jacksh!t if CA drops him tomorrow or doesn't even pick him for any future match involving Australia. In this case, CA accepted it and were accommodating which is what civilized countries do - particularly when it doesn't affect them a lot. There is a fine line between paranoia and hate - CA (for now) has given a lesson to everyone on how to tread that line.

Sports should be totally off the religious or any kind of faith influence. People who practice their religion privately and follow their faith don't need to bring it to public level unless it is causing them to under-perform or risk to their health/life. If Fawad was forced to drink alcohol or served food that does not agree with him then it is totally justified but a logo has no bearing on his game or on his religious faith. As someone put rightly if you move to country or region with the knowledge of assimilating you should be open to such things. Why do millions of Hindus & Muslims work in western countries were they may directly or indirectly interact with restaurant/companies that produce Ham or Beef ? I am sure they don't look at Ham or Beef eaten by westerners as anything against their religion, which again should not be offensive but if it is then please don't move to such places.
