Sandeep Patil quashes Sachin retirement talks

Amid speculations from various quarters that the hastily arranged two Test match series against West Indies, the second of which will be Sachin Tendulkar's 200th Test match, might also be the final match of his illustrious career, the chairman of the selection panel, Sandeep Patil has quashed reports that he had spoken to Tendulkar about his future. An 'Indian Express' report had indicated that Patil had personally met Sachin and talked about the plans of the selection committee for the next year, news that the chief selector termed as completely untrue. "I haven't met Sachin in last 10 months or discussed anything so no point in reading," Patil told NDTV. With Sachin entering his forties and his form with the bat seeming to be dwindling, it is understood that the selectors want to have a look at several youngsters who are knocking at the door of selection. "We have got a bunch of youngsters and they all have been performing well. No one can question Tendulkar. What he has done is remarkable but we also have to look at the future. We have several talented players waiting to get one chance to prove themselves," a selector reportedly told the Indian Express. Sachin struggled for runs with the bat during last season's home Tests and his last century came in the Cape Town Test against South Africa in early 2011.

This is a huge step by Sundeep Patil......All the indian fans will bully him and might even treat him as outcast but he is doing in the best interest of the country. This guy has guts.... He is doing amazing job as a selector......also he seems to have eye for talent.... What srikkant couldn't do for 5 years...he did it in one year... Kudos to Patil... He did a wonderful job as Kenya coach back in 2003....After Flectcher, he should take up the job of coaching India....But i dont think it's likely to happen

Patil has been busy buffering himself. He knows what happened to Ratnakar Shetty. Bit of a non story from the Indian express. Reminds me of the time they wrote a piece of Indian army supposedly marching on the government

Sachin Tendulkar will take call on retirement himself: Kirti Azad

New Delhi: Former India cricketer Kirti Azad has said that it is for Sachin Tendulkar to decide when to call time on his career. The cricketer turned politician further said that while the decision to retire should solely be Tendulkar’s own, it doesn’t mean that he cannot be dropped from the team. “He (Sachin) will take a call on his retirement himself, if selectors feel his performance isn’t good enough he can be dropped,” Azad told a news agency on Wednesday. Media reports have suggested that Tendulkar has been told by chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil that his performance will be taken into account for decision regarding his selection in the national team. This has led to speculations that Tendulkar’s 200th Test against West Indies could be his final game for Team India. Patil, on the other hand, has dismissed such reports saying he hasn’t met Tendulkar to discuss anything.

Sandeep Patil was a successful coach who helped Kenya reach semi finals, he is proving to be successful as a selector too. He is the man, you need b@lls to say something like that for player of Tendulkars calibre. None of the previous selectors had the guts.
