That was a magnificent delivery and could get any right handed batsman in the world either LBW or clean bowled. Merve surprised him with pace and swing in the air and seam off the wicket which you do no expect from a spinner. It was like BK or PK inswinging the ball.

Austin 3:!6 Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Dhawan and Gambhir on merit. Only issue is both are left handers and will deprive of a left - right combination. Having said that, the greatest opening pair in our time is also all left handed - Langer and Hayden.

For starters, Sehwag has lost his hand-eye co-ordination and Gambo is only good at fishing outside the off stump. Vijay is poor at playing overseas - look at the diff in stats at home and away. Jiwanjot Singh is a domestic bully. KL Rahul simply lacks enough FC experience. Jiwanjot, Akshath Reddy and Rahul also haven't played enough "A" team cricket. The same is also true for Zol. Dhawan also has his share of problems. In West Indies, he ran into a few problems, and I expect these to be exposed. But, he is quite gutsy and will probably score at least in a few innings. Rohit Sharma has the technique, but there are two glaring issues. Firstly, he is a nervous starter and takes a while to settle, and could be dismissed cheaply. Secondly, he tends to throw it away after getting starts. One left-field selection could have been Jaffer, but the selectors will never do such a thing. I expect Dhawan and Vijay to open, but the partnership will be an utter failure on the SA tour. We need a second opener, preferably a doughty right hander to complement Dhawan.

Gambhir has been patchy at best in County and Sehwag won't continue as an opener. Vijay is crap. I'd like to see Abhinav Mukund given another chance, I thought he performed decently in English conditions, but it's probably going to be Rohit and Dhawan.
