G_B_ Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 @G_B Johnson can be unplayable on his day,but from what I've seen over the years he is erratic more often than not and loses his line when he's attacked. As such I dont think the Indian batsmen have anything to fear if they play out his first spell cautiously and then attack like they did today. If they have the talent to destroy Malinga then Johnson should be no problemo for them. considering he averages 25 with the ball with an economy of 4.8 i am guessing he gets is right more times than not. He also averages 24.8 wth the ball over 22 matches in India he averages 27 v India overall in 23 matches. Malinga does not have those numbers. All i am suggesting is Indian fans need to stop fist pumping just cause Kohli smashed Johnson around on a really flat pitch. If he does that on a pitch which helps pacers. Then we should all applaud it.

Those are good stats certainly, didnt expect those but again he's been poor against us in tests And i do believe those stats will be corrected regardless of the pitch, lets wait and see.

If Johnson can't do well on slightly flatter condition he should not be considered a threat as that is where most of the ODIs will be played.
Vilander Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 MJ poor guy is incredible when good, but piss poor when bad, he just looses his line once he is attacked..happens many times, wont be surprised if he sprays it in the next game and then turn gun in the other.
Brainfade Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 hmm he said that in the aftermath of Pune. And no he should not have refrained. That was his aim. I am sure MSD has an aim to pick up early wickets. Its different from proclaiming that they will pick up pick up early wickets whatever will happen. Aiming to take wickets is one thing. Aiming to intimidate implies you are want the batsmen to fear for their physical well-being. Questioning the batsmen's "manhood," if you will. And it begets "khunnas" in the opposition. We saw it in Jaipur.
jusarrived Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 thats cause Indian bowlers have a really **** bowling average. Vinay kumar for eg has a career average of 36 and an economy rate lose to 6 per over. Infact barring Bhuvi (who is young in his career) all our bowlers have averages more than 30. They also have terrible T20 averages barring Bhuvi. Maybe if these guys actually have good bowling records then i can say today was an off day or it was the pitch. you yourself admit that MJ was poor cos of a flatter pitch . Tell me again , why we need another bowler who cant bowl on flat pitches ? Unlike MJ our bowlers have to bowl on flat pitches 90% of time . That avg of 26 will be ~35 if he was playing for India .

If Johnson can't do well on slightly flatter condition he should not be considered a threat as that is where most of the ODIs will be played. actually he did better than all other aussie pace bowlers. Yes he is erratic. but since he gave up booze and sorted out issues with his mother he has been a different bowler. Still erratic but a lot of consistency. Lets keep in mind he does have a good economy rate. Even in India.
Detonator Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 We still have 5 ODI and very next one is at MOHALI. :nervous: Indian batsmen shld better well prepared.

That pitch was so flat that even a peak Shane Bond would have done nothing to trouble the batsmen. Johnson and the other bowlers can only do so much in India. The wickets are so flat, the boundaries are so short that it sucks the life out of any bowler.

You dont see a difference between bowling on Flat pitches in ODIs and Flat picthes all thru there career ? Domestic , Tests , ODIs , IPL , T20s etc . So its completely different being a pace bowler for India than say Aus .
jusarrived Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 and dew. Dew works both ways actually . Its the due which helped him in the first ODI , but if you dont take advantage of it early it backfires ..Thats the reason matches under lights are usually one sided , either the chasing side loses toomany early on or they win quite easily .

Apparently you don't because when it comes to Johnson you say Indian pitches are flatter than others. But when comparing Kohli and DeVilliers ODI pitches all around the world become the same? BTW, have you checked Johnson's ODI record in India?

Johnson and the other bowlers can only do so much in India. The wickets are so flat, the boundaries are so short that it sucks the life out of any bowler. We are highly exaggerating the difference in pitch condition in the first one dayer and pitch condition in the second one dayer. Give little credit to Indian batsmen. Just because pitch is little flatter you can't waltz down and hit the bowlers all over the park. It still gets released at 153 kph. That is good speed regardless of pitch. Bailey took Johnson off after 3 steaming overs which he shouldn't have done. SHould have bowled him one more over. He allowed our batsmen to get into a rythm . Once they found the rythm it didn't matter who bowl at what speed. I don't think watson bowled any different in the second match. Just that Dhawan used his feet very well to attack them. 99.9% firmly believed India will lose the match by a big margin half way through. We won it handsomely with 7 or 8 overs to spare. SO let us give some credit to the batsmen who displayed brilliant batsmanship instead of discredting their performance.
