He is the only weak link. I think Tiwari and Irfan PAthan played well in the ODI series against SL at the start of 2012 season in Aug/Sept 2012. Tiwari also took some wickets with his leg-spin . Since then , both these poor folks have been injured whenever international selection is due.
MCcricket Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Indian batting line up could be even better with so much young talent Coming thru the ranks and knocKing on selectors doors, also this gen is very confident against pace, fielding wise, selectors need to look at bowling, we have 5 bowlers who can bowl high 140 but selectors don't have the vision to give them a go to form a pool, Dhawan, Rohit, Rahane, Pujara,Sehwag, Kohli can win games anywhere but our bowling is weak especially with captain and selectors choice of going for domestic bullies trundlers instead on pedigreed pace bowlers

Still believe that Gautam Gambhir is a better bet than Rohit, and use Rohit and Raina alternatively/according to the opposition / conditions. I have faith in Yuvraj, but he has been wobbly.. and pretty bad kinda wobbly.

Oh really I am just product of these times, what foundations have they set if you may, plz enlighten me and how long did they take to set those foundations. How many cracks were formed while setting up those foundations??

How many cracks were formed while setting up those foundations?? Boss as much as I agree that Kohli has been an absolute beast but he has been given a solid foundation to work upon. It's unlike earlier when guys like Sachin/Saurav had to set up and finis the matches. Rest anyways our team was pretty hopeless..

We had top three, SRT, SG, RD, and nothing else after that you could rely on.
saneindian Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 The challenge this young batting line up now faces is in how quickly they can move from ODI cricket to test cricket. Thanks to BCCI's shoddy planning, they will have just 3 days before the 1st test vs WI and one practice match in SA before the tests. In the past, our most experienced batting line ups struggled in SA even after getting 2 weeks+ to acclimatize before tests in SA/Aus/Eng.

Regarding odis of the lasted decade,It has gone through so many changes from death of reverse swing to ultra flat pitches,smaller grounds,mediocre bowlers so its hard to compare.But this team has some of the best batting talent india has seen ever.

Sehwag was an exception, should not become the norm to push MO batsmen to test openers especially with slots up for grabs in the MO. Also, Vijay is being written off prematurely. He was similarly called as a TTF before he made the comeback with two massive back to back test 100s. Deserves a run in the side. And assuming he does fail, you have Gambhir, Mukund for now and Chand and Jiwanjot should be ready in a season or two.

Boundary at Nagpur was still 80 meter, not made shorter. Same for Mohali, Jaipur, and Pune as they too had 70-75 meter boundaries. Even new ground at Ranchi had pretty decent boundaries. Some grounds are small from the beginning like Eden, Chinnaswamy at Bangalore, Wankhede. Kotla, etc. Thing is bats are so good that boundaries do not matter these days when 90-100 meter sixes are common. Low full tosses are going for sixes which used to be a difficult ball to hit and a weapon for pacers in death, once.

We had top three' date=' SRT, SG, RD, and nothing else after that you could rely on.[/quote'] At that time the top batting stars of most countries, and especially our country, wanted to bat at one of the top 3 positions, because they had more scope of scoring centuries and runs there. Batters who batted at 4 or 5 in tests, batted at the top 3 in ODIs. Stars did not agree to bat even at no.4. After Sehwag started to succeed at the opener's position in ODIs, either Sachin or Sourav could have batted at 4 to make the batting less top heavy but they did not. Compare that with today where our best 2 batsmen in ODIs are battling at 4 and 6 for the sake of the team's balance. If it was the 90s, we would have seen Kohli and Dhoni opening the batting and we would have nobody to finish. That has been the difference between the two periods. The thinking is more from the team's point of view.
