Darren Sammy's words for Indian fans

Lot of people were criticizing before about how we are making Tendulkar look more than the game. I think what he said during presentation was brilliant and for once makes you proud as an Indian. He mentions how the world should learn from Indians about how to treat it's heroes. We might go over board and get obsessed, but this moment and the Farewell India gave to Tendulkar, is definitely something to be proud of for all Indian Cricket fans. Never had it happened that a legend retiring cricketer would be given a chance to give speech to the crowd during presentation, our bcci did allow it and it was great gesture. I mean they had to but just to make it happen, I would say Kudos to BCCI on it and the crowd the way the reacted on last 2 days of test. Before the start of the series, many had said how India is making a player look more than a the game, but the moment Sachin gave that speech, even the foreign media was in awe of him. It changed everyone's mind. India didn't make Tendulkar look more than the game, India just gave him the send off which he deserved for what impact he has had which no one ever had ever.

I could keep on hearing about him for the next 1-2 weeks :). I was really thrilled to really find out the person he was during that retirement speech. I could care less if Sachin's glorious retirement overshadows The Ashes countdown or riles up the Aussie/English fans on Cricinfo. .

You look at Sammy and he has all sorts of pics mingling with local Indian ranji players. He called his parents and brother over to India and even they seem to be enjoying. Even somebody like Hayden. He loved India the country. Even got into cooking Indian food in the hotels he stayed in while commentating and calling CSK mates to dinner when India toured Aus.

Yeh kind words from Sammy. As Ganguly pointed out, this farewell was great for Indian cricket in so many ways. The sheer depth of feeling went some way to allay fears that India is not fit to be the main custodian of cricket.

Supporting and cheering a player on the field, applauding his shots, allowing him to give a farewell speech etc doesn't make the player greater than the game. Hoping that the openers get out quickly so that the so called "fans" can watch Tendulkar bat, hoping that the opposition batters our bowlers so that they can watch him bat in the second innings, does. And I'm not even complaining about the "celebrations" arranged by CAB, that isn't worse than the other things I've mentioned. Surprised that some can't understand this difference, it isn't even all that subtle.

VVS called it just before the NZ test series was about to start and he was not sure whether he will be dropped or retained that is why he wanted to talk to Dhoni but he could reach him, so rather than being dropped, he decided to hang his boots.

Never did he mention that I want to discuss my plans with him. If he would have wanted to play, and call the NZ series as his last, he would have easily got it..

It can be anything and we will not be sure about it but one thing that is sure they did not get quarter the respect they should have.

But strictly speaking on merit -basis , Sammy is an outstanding T20 player and World T20 winning Captain .. With quinton decock and Sangakkara already there , it makes sense to have a non-w/k captain to ensure that Sanga and De **** can be rotated for w/k duties:finger:

This I also find it ridiculous when Bangladeshis make OTT comments about foreigners who had nice words to say about us. Its good to like someone but not to make him a hero just because he made a positive statement. The same way I feel that Sehwag was no less a class player(in his peak) just because he did not like Bangladesh
