What was this big hype around mohit ?

What happened. I am not writing him off like some of the people are here already. Give him sometime. He looks decent prospect. Also at the same time, give Shami few more games before we hype him a lot. Isn't it good we let them play for few. Shami has been good in whatever little he has bowled, but doesn't mean we have to hype him all the way. Supporting him now should be enough and let him do his job now and prove all of us that he is good like how Zaheer had proved all of us how he was our best bowler in India for long time.

He is our gun bowler. I see him playing for long long time now. He might end up becoming a better bowler than even Shami. Shami, I feel is having a great run right now, but he bowls too full for my liking. I want to see more of him.
You being sarcastic? Mohit better then Shami!!!!!!

even i find shami a bit too hyped for all the supposed good bowling he is averaging 34 with the ball in odis at an econ more than 5 in ODIs. Not saying he should be dropped. But those numbers in ODIs are not worth hyping up. Test cricket yes he appears to have something special with his reverse

Another reason why some of the Indian people here seem to be contradict themselves. First they say they want bowlers to concentrate on pace and not worry about line and length and let the play, and then if some posters tell that the bowler looks good and needs to show us more how good he is on a consistent level, then people get mad that we are taking the hype away from the bowler. Why hype after just 1 more series. It's good to talk about them and praise them and suppor them, but one should be ready to mellow down a bit before the bowler has played his first overseas tour.

^ same thing happened with Bhuvi. His bowling average has now shot up above 30. Again not saying he is dropped. But before hyping people up maybe we need to wait. Say 50 odis and maybe 20 tests.

But fans ahould not react for every over of a match. They have these fixed opinions about each players. If they do anything remotely to vindicate that, they go over the top to criticize the bowler. If a bowler is slightly inexperienced and new to the scene we should not go overboard one way or the other. Ishant gets picked on because he has played so many tests, so many ODIs yet he bowls like sh** in crunch times. He doesn't even make an attempt. Bhuvaneswar attempted a yorker with wet ball, it became a full toss. In Ishant's case he would never even attempt the yorker. So i would give all the pacers a bit of time to develop. I have a feeling bowlers don't get proper guidance. Dhoni has some set of ideas about containing batsmen. He expects them to follow it. Bowlers find it harder to implement his strategies. It was clearly seen in the 3rd match. Growth rate of our pace bowlers is very very slow compared to growth rate of pacers from other teams. We have to identify why they are not able to express themselves. Zak has very few days left. If he can something for India that is it. Guiding young fast bowlers to a state of independence. They should be in a position to tell Dhoni what should be done not the other way around.

I agree that fans should not react to every over or even every match. But in the case of Bhuvi its becoming a trend that he cannot perform in India or on pitches with low swing. Ie he is a limited bowler. He needs a spicy pitch. India have played 9 ODIs in this home season and Bhuvi in 8 matches has picked up 5 wickets at an average of 71. His test average for our home season in 2013 is 38 in over 6 tests which India won comfortably. The only saving grace (which is why he needs to be in the team) has been his economy rate. Especially in the Australia series. Even that is buffered by lack of death bowling. Its fair to say Bhuvi is not a gun bowler by international standards. He will continue to get into the indian team (rightly) because of the abysmal lack of quality.

Btw on Bhuvi, i think he will be a threat in the T20 format because the ball is still relatively new in the 20th over. Say Dhoni bowled with bhuvi 3 overs upfront. Thats 75% of his quota. Its bowling with the old ball which is an issue for Bhuvi.

I was referring to Mohit. About Bhuvan his overall ER in India is still under 5 which is good. He is not so bad that he must be dropped. He is one of the very few seamers who try to bowl at the corridor of uncertainty more often than not. He should be persisted with. Other day the runs he leaked were attempted yorkers turning into full tosses. Can happen when there is excessive dew.Otherwise we cannot say he has lost matches for India like VK, Ishant etc. Also Bhuvaneswar should be given a run to bowl in death overs.

Can he not become? Why can't he not become better than him?
No he can't.Because he is not as naturally gifted as shami. His potential is no where near shami who can be a world class bowler for all conditions.

So after people here (me) repeatedly pointed out that BK is not being used properly, he is not even being allowed to complete his quota of overs, his death bowling is good but he is not given a chance, in tests he hardly gets overs, and then we are actually proved right, that indeed his confidence and ability has been shattered by the lack of confidence shown by Dhoni you make this post? You are completely wrong. BK is indeed a gun bowler, one of the most skilled in the world. But no bowler can develop if his captain shows zero confidence in him you keep on repeating his lack of death bowling when after Shammi, in the few opportunity he has been given, he has been second best. But the fact you parrot Dhoni's thinking shows all that is wrong with Indian pace bowler's development You also mention his lack of taking wickets but on Indian wickets how many wickets can one take with new ball? And if you are not even given enough opportunity with old ball where others take free wickets, what do you do? In the 2nd ODI he picked 2 wickets (and one dropped catch) because he was allowed to bowl at death. But of course you will ignore all these factors because you will blindly look at average and speed guns. How many times has he even completed his quota under Dhoni? It is clear to everyone but you that Dhoni wants him to be a containing bowler rather than a wicket taking bowler. He also knows his captain only trusts him for one spell. What would you do in his place? Bowl it tight or bowl all out? You bowl 6 to 7 overs per match, what do you do? It is not a co-incidence that whenever players like BK burst onto the scene they are great, but then they are slowly killed off because we are defensive with our bowling I will stick my neck out and say that BK is one of the most skillful bowlers in the world. He has the ability to be like Asif. What he lacks is a supporting captain, a good bowling mentor and a long run. You calling him an ordinary bowler is your own lack of understanding of bowling. And this thinking will always plague India throughout history. If in so many years we have not been able to groom one decent bowler, it cannot always be because of lack of skills. We know how to groom batsmen, we know how to destroy bowlers completely. BK and Dhawan both shone in CT. But you never blamed Dhawan before last innins for lack of runs after that. You never quoted his stats in India. But for BK you just blindly look at averages and speed gun. This is why I say, we have no ability to recognize a talented bowler. For a talented batsmen we never go by average. Do we even look at averages and strike rate of Sharma, Dhawan etc before making a judgement? But in bowling we just blindly follow speed gun and averages.

First you don't let someone ball with old ball and then keep on repeating he can't.

Lol icf already wants him out ...wont be surprised people start abusing Dhoni 2 more matches
there are plenty already threads on Dhoni abuse...and from now on - "Dhoni is partial to CSK player" will change to "Dhoni has spoiled Mohit Sharma's career like all other fast bowlers" :giggle:

What? Dhawan had one 60, one 95 and one 100 in Australia series. This was the only series we played in India after CT.

Dhoni doesn't have confidence in BK but he keeps picking him in each and every match, even by benching Umesh in a home test. That must be the most unique way to show you don't like a player.
