Kallis to retire from Tests

Legend really. One of the best of our times. Well done Kallis on a brilliant career. Glad he will be around a bit more for One days. I will follow his batting more closely now then I ever did before. Still remember his first few centuries when he came and played brilliant in Australia.

Zaheer Khan, as a bowler, is an extremely accomplished cricketer. He is probably India's 2nd best paceman after Kapil (Sorry Javagal) and certainly India's best fast bowler since the turn of this century (Gotto work harder, Ishant). If somebody looked at Zak's fast bowling numbers in isolation, they'd say - Now, that is an extremely good cricketer. And to his credit, Zak just passed the 300 wicket mark. The true testament of Kallis' greatness is that he has as many wickets - with an extremely similar average and SR - as India's 2nd best fast bowler of all time. That is staggering. This, for a cricketer who will rank among the top 8 batsmen in the last 50 years of cricket. His batting and bowling numbers, taken in isolation, are awe inspiring. But together, you realize what a truly gifted crickter he is. I think it is perfectly reasonable to say that Kallis' legacy as a batsmen can match, if not exceed, the legacy of someone like Glenn Mcgrath as a bowler. Now, imagine if Mcgrath averaged 40 with the bat! What if Anil Kumble averaged 40 with the bat with 13-14 international 100s? And we have not even talked about Kallis' 350 international test catches! How is this guy not the most naturally gifted international cricketer we have ever seen, just by default!

it was always going to be a pipe dream just to play one format for kallis, it is so hard thats why guy like Laxman needs to be given kudos. kallis was just awesome, the most complete cricketer I ever saw.
