Square Drive Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Very poor from a country that produced a Kapil Dev. Younger ones should have inspired to follow. The only fair reason could be too much cricket played across three formats these days makes it really tough for fast bowling all rounders.

But to go from there to a genuine all rounder is insane. He is no were near good enough with bat to be GENUINE all rounder. He is just as not as bad as rest of tail, that does not make him potential all rounder

I think every country have a all rounder :- Aussie have Watto. SAF had Kallis, they have Duminy, Mclaren and Robbie. NZ have Williamson, Nathan Mcullum. WI have Bravo, Samuels, Sammy, Pollard, Smith. Pak have Hafeez, Afretard. England have Stokes, Root. SL have Dilshan, Perera. India have none :(

India have none :( Ashwin averages 40 with 100 plus test wickets in 20 tests but he is not an alrounder and Kane Williamson, Root, Dumini, and Dilshan are alrounders. :hysterical:

For this, he will need to start taking his batting more seriously and cut down on the wafts and aggression. I can see him finishing with a 35+ average. As for his bowling, we need to accept that he will only be lethal in India and against weak teams (versus spin). But, he has the potential to end with a good all-round record (better than Shastri, worse than Mankad) if given a long rope. Jaddu can become a fine bowler. People think that he is a limited bowler because of his lack of turn and outwardly obvious variations. But, he has fine control over line and length as well as subtle variations a la Kumble. But, Jaddu was and never will be a Test al-rounder (he is an ODI all-rounder). India should make him the lead spinner and ask him to contribute 20-25 with the bat. Bhuvi falls under the "useful tailender" category. As for the potential all-rounders, here's my take on some of them: Bhatia - Could have been the real deal, esp since his batting was always very competent. However, his bolwing lacks bite and batting isn't strictly international standard. Could have been better than Robin Singh/other alternatives tried in late 90s/early 2000s. Too late now to be considered for selection. Shukla and Binny - Domestic record has been fantastic, but is short of the highest class both as bowler and batsman. Their bowling in particular is weak - 1-2 wickets per match. Nayar - Had a superb FC avg before the Ranji season. However, his batting looks horribly exposed. Bowling is not more than military medium. Irfan Pathan - Has lost zip in bowling and will never prob reach Test standards (may still be useful ODI allrounder). Batting is pleasing and is under-rated. Yusuf Pathan - His offspin has fetched him many wickets at domestic level, but simply not upto international standard. Batting has always been hit-or-miss, and more misses. Outside chance if he can reach the brief peak he reached in the NZ & SA series. Piyush Chawla - has lost the ability to turn his legreaks. Bowling not international standard. Batting useful, but mostly agricultural. Sumit Narwal - Bowling record is v.good, but seems somewhat old for a pacer to be selected. Batting avg also too low. Jalaj Saxena - His bowling has been good this season, but his career bowling stats aren't very promising. Batting avg and record is quite good. If he continues to bowl as well as this season, could be a prospect. Rassool - Has done well with the bat, poorly with the ball this season. Still quite young, and could probably improve in both disciplines. Potential candidate for spin allrounder with Saxena. Akshar Patel - too early to say. Promising record so far. Aparajith - clearly has the creds to become an international batsman. However, his bowling has been very ineffective in the longer forms. Rishi Dhawan - Top record with both bat and ball. Must be given a chance pronto to see what stuff he's made of.

Perhaps he should bat higher up the order, score a few more runs and put himself in contention.
