There were at least 5-6 shots which were either edges or just fell short of the fielders. His first few runs were from edges. He got away because of the slowish nature of the pitch where his shots did not carry. I seriously don't think in a faster pitch like the one in Napier - Rahane will prosper. I don't think all you Rahane worshipers saw the game today or the one in Napier carefully. This guy is NOT ODI material. He is consuming a very important role that a Rayudu can fill in - a guy who can accelerate too. I guarantee that in faster pitches Rahane will fail - he just does not have the technique. I am willing to bet $100 that in faster pitches he will not pass 20 runs. Today he got seriously lucky with the slowish nature of the pitch. Me out as too many Rahane worshipers here... :omg: Leave it - you'll probably call Pujara hack as well after watching his two innings against Zim. :giggle:

You will see Rahane is just NOT good enough for overseas play and the all important #4 spot. Today he even scored so many runs because of pathetic fielding by NZ and Kohli on the other end bailing him out from pressure situations and of course the fluke shots either falling short or middle of fields and edges not carrying because of the slowish pitch Just WATCH the full game and you will see what I mean.:omg: DHAWAN: Deserves more chances. The biggest problem he faces right now is that enuch opening partner of his. Nohit simply swallows up strike and creates pressure on Dhawan and anyone else coming in. Previously Dhawan used to nudge the good balls for singles and go after the bad ones. Now theres no point in him taking a single as Nohit will swallow rest of the over and he has to go after the balling as the onus is on him to score runs. RAHANE Again, deserves more chances. He came in a very tough situation today but at least was not selfish enough to hog strike. He played a courageous innings against the Saffers when the teams back was against the wall. He will gain confidence as he plays more, also a flexible player, can open if need be. PUJARA deserves to come into the side and replace Nohit. GAMBHIR nations walking wicket, leave him out. No one is convinced he has fixed his flaws and hasnt exactly set alight the Ranji's either. There are plenty of younger and better batsmen in India. NOHIT:whack:

The off-spinner, who has been enormously successful on helpful pitches at home, has gone wicketless in the first two ODIs here. In South Africa, he had one wicket to show in the three ODI innings he bowled. Although, Dhoni continues to defend Ashwin, saying he is quite happy with the restrictive role he plays abroad, the off-spinner’s lack of inventiveness away from friendly conditions is allowing the opposition to get to big totals. Ishant’s poor line and lack of zip has been compounded by his poor control, and he has waxed and waned in his career. That leaves almost half the side facing serious questions. India will have to drop him and field the fit-again Varun Aaron, who bowls at a decent pace despite having suffered a serious back injury. And leg-spinner Amit Mishra might go for runs but he has been someone who needs the backing of the team management. If that happens, he is definitely a far better wicket-taking option. Currently, Ashwin barely creates chances, leave alone pick wickets, and that has led to certain desperation in his bowling. South Africa and then New Zealand have exposed the serious weaknesses in the India team. And they have to return to Australia and New Zealand to defend their World Cup. Even if he's forced to select Aaron, he'll not support him in the match, give him random spells, keep his quota un-finished, if possible try to deny him any wickets and generally show his indifference or dis-pleasure towards Aaron.. These are all tried and tested Dhobi tactics and we have seen these on many occasions earlier...

Please note that question is not about whether he should be dropped or not (don't think you really need a poll for that). Question is whether Dhoni would drop him from the team (pls note) or not.
