KhanSaab Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Its no secret that India's army is dominated by northern people, especially Punjab, UP, Rajasthan etc. Why do South Indians stay away from the army? I see plenty of south Indian internet warriors but few actually with the cojones to do it in real life. Why? Discuss. :icflove:

Are you two saying that South Indians are appropriately represented in the Indian army? I didnt say no south Indian has ever joined the army. I am speaking relatively here.

coffee_rules Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 To make up for the south Indians not being in the army, stop creating these threads on ICF, take a flight to India and a bus to Jammu and defend India''s borders.

rageaddict Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Why would anyone with an ounce of intelligence waste his life over fake pride of defending some land ? I would say that Lungis were the smart ones who never got tricked into the stupid propaganda en masses, now even the other communities are dumping their tradition of being paid killers of Bharat. I dont know about Bhayya states that have problems of Poverty, unemployment, backwardness, lack of opportunities that leave no option for youngsters , but Punjab is one state where in the 70s-80s it was very common for every household in rural areas to have atleast 1 young Man Working in the Army, in some families all the Young men were working in the Army with their father and Grandfather having retired from the same profession. Now in the current era, the situation has reversed 360 degrees. The youngsters today would laugh at the prospect of being an ArmyMAN, thanks to better standard of living and growing opportunities in other fields. Ab Kahawat yeh hai ki jo Zindagi mai kuch nai kar pata wo Chaati Dikhakar Fauji ban jaata hai.
randomGuy Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 There are no land borders in South India. If army goes for recruitment in South India, it will get whatever numbers it is looking for.

BeautifulGame Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Because they are more advanced economically and has better employment opportunities . I won't be surprised if the ratio is similar in Gujarat ( another economically developed state) as well. Most people I know in army( from my personal experience) are either from poor economic back ground or come from families that has a rich and proud tradition of sending family members to Army.
NareshK Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Indian army does have South Indian contingent. As army is mostly stationed near Pak border, most of the army come from Punjab, Haryana etc. If there were border issues in South and need an army there, most of the army stationed there will come from the local areas.
nballa Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 actually the army, airforce etc do recruiting in campus interviews in most of the south indian colleges. but at the same time so do Infosys/tcs/cognizant etc with highly incentive packages and you know the rest.
Stuge Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 I have met a lot of people from south India who are in army .
