Cricket_Hacker Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 We don't want to burn him out,do we? He has a weak knee, and given the number of odi's we play,it could harm his career. He should remain a test specialist
saneindian Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 As Rahane is finding out, in tests you can go on leaving balls outside off stumps, ducking against short balls etc , in ODIs each such leave puts you under a lot of pressure drawing uncharacteristic responses Pujara has a great Test record and is on his way to greatness in another 8-10 years but translating the Test success to ODIs will require a different approach. Too early to to present him as a solution all our ills in ODIs IMO. Don't think both Rahane and Pujara can play in the ODI top 4 Also wonder for how long all this support for him will continue IF he doesn't start well? After the Zim ODIs, it was said he doesnt look ready for ODIs, that was just 6-7 months ago. Two big issues - running between the wickets and a bad knee. Has got into trouble diving for runs in Test matches.
express bowling Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I have been saying this for a long time. Tired of repeating it. Nobody can afford to leave their most technically sound run machine out of the ODI side. With the "2 new balls " rule, this has become even more important. It is an absolute no brainer in overseas ODIs. To add to this, he has a great List A record.
Old guy Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 In Australia he will be so useful but this t20 performances might seal his fate but who knows he might actually get better in this season only
SLICKR392 Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 bump even Rahane is better than Pujara. Huh? You have a different mentality in ODIs unlike T20s. Few dots can create immense pressure on the batsman in T20s, not the same in ODIs. After yesterday's knock, he is a must in our ODI set up.
Lord Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 One thing we saw yesterday was he was constantly rotating strike easily and allowing Max and Miller to launch. We have seen our batsmen absolutely get stuck in the middle,so Pujara is a upgrade even if he cant hit sixes
rkt.india Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Yes. T20 and ODIs are two different ball games. Don't mix formats. He tried a bit too hard yesterday, trying to hit too hard or coming down the track needlessly, the reason he was not able to time the ball. ODIs are completely different. There 1 and 2s can with odd boundary work. Even an SR of 75-80 will good for him batting in top order at most times. Batting can revolve around him in Aus next year.
GautiMaan Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Yesterday's kinda innings are perfect for ODI's
fineleg Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Wc2015 is in non-subcont Chepu shud be groomed for it
div Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Rahane also rotates strike well in IPL,but generally struggles in ODIs .
renjith Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 His innings in ipl yesterday against RR was a big struggle from start to end. He was trying to smash every ball ending up in a mistimed shot to long on. Even though odi gives you a bit more time to settle, he is far from fitting into our odi team. Rahane as well is a misfit in the odi team. I think we should give preference to players like kl rahul, uthappa, karun nair, kedar yadav, ...
