Lord Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 But Jaddu's even worse with the bat. This is just one odd innings' date='[/quote'] he did well in CT too:--D overseas averages more than Raina lol
adi B Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 perfect answer to the critics who were saying the tail starts after raina..these 2 put on 84 in 50 odd balls
adi B Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Good knock, almost a match winning knock. Shami saala  lost it for us both with the bat and with the ball  had bhuvi taken the catch the target would have been 288 and his figures would have been 3/70
Gollum Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Ashwin is turning out to be like Shastribot, only 10 times better.
JourneyMan Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Desperate times call for desperate measures. Switch Rohit and Ashwin in the batting lineup
Muloghonto Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Desperate times call for desperate measures. Switch Rohit and Ashwin in the batting lineup This. Ashwin is not a lower order tonker. Thats Jadeja. Ashwin plays proper cricketing shots and he can be a proper batsman. IMO, if we shunt him up the order to open, he will do what Rohit does, ie, anchor the innings at top. I've seen Ashwin bat and he is a very atypical Indian batsman: he is more comfortable in the V than most specialist Indian batsmen, he has the height to take on bouncers and doesnt instinctly back away to leg for balls bowled on his body. And to top it all, I said earlier that Ashwin is one of those extremely rare Indian batsmen who looks more comfortabe against pace than spin. So lower order is not suited for him. IMO, its time people realised that Ashwin is NOT a frontline spinner. He will never be a Harbhajan, nevermind Kumble replacement. But what he can do with the ball is be an excellent compliment to a frontline spinner by keeping things tight, especially in tests. Its time we realized that we have a Shastri at our hands rather than a Prasanna in the making.

Ashwin is a backfoot player whose trigger movement is to backfoot. He plays well thorugh the legside But he is limited with few scoring shots on offside as u would expect.Ashwin does well at lowerorder its where he should stay ,Bat with out pressure. Its insane to think he can open for india we tried it with irfan and we asked too much form him.Ashwin has to be a good enough bowler and improve his offspin and get some turn as it will make carrom ball more potent.

You are highly underestimating him. He plays on off side as good as most in this team. He can easily at 5 in this ODI team.

BlueBee Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 That's a great knock. By both Ashwin and Jadeja
King Tendulkar Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 That's a great knock. By both Ashwin and Jadeja Yes superb Hope this will part of them regularly delivering in odis. They are improving and can keep improving Although would be nice if not needed to bat some times

Even yesterday his 2nd boundary was a beautiful cut shot beating point. He also plays some good back foot drives through covers.
youngindia Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 he does. Even yesterday his 2nd boundary was a beautiful cut shot beating point. rkt.india Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 ashwin is not going to be a proper batsman.a specialist batsman has way more than what he does. however the quality of some of his shots has good quality and shows he had some practice as a batsman. however saying he can be a batsman is an exaggeration let's stop this hyperbole... Ashwin first started as a batsman and had done well at U19 level but then converted into a bowler who could bat rather than a batsman who could bowl, but in his short career, he has shown that he has a good temperament and has steadily improved his range of shots. He was weak at power hitting before, he has worked on that aspect which was first evident in CLT20 last year and again yesterday, even Dhoni echoed that he had worked on his big hitting. If you have a batsman like Raina who dances on every ball a pacer bowls and then you see Ashwin playing them easily who is a supposed tailender then he can easily bat at Raina's place at 5.

saneindian Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Runs from him are a bonus. Would much rather see him work on his bowling and become an attacking spinner rather than one content with a 50-55/1 kind of spells he's been bowling in ODIs.
youngindia Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 If you have a batsman like Raina who dances on every ball a pacer bowls and then you see Ashwin playing them easily who is a supposed tailender then he can easily bat at Raina's place at 5. you are only saying ashwin does not have a weakness or two that raina has. that does not mean ashwin has the overall package that raina has.in the end raina can average above 35.ashwin will not cross 28. from matches I watched at school and league level(including former tn ranj players like Ramesh, sharath and badani ) I don't think ashwin anywhere looks like a top order batsman.he is too awkward and his defence and style is similar to a bowler's (than of a genuine batsman).i find it difficult to believe a top school or league team would put him at opening spot, though he has some decent batting ability ashwin studied at psbb(a famous CBSE school which turn out IITians and notables like ar rehman) and st bede's( south superstars suriya and Mahesh babu)....I don't know about their current standard. traditionally they have decent cricket teams..the indian players in the past like Ramesh, badani, aashish, kumaran came from santhome high school,(just 200m in the opposite street from st bede's), where I learnt my cricket.
Lord Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 There is no harm in trying things. He does bat in lower order but he does not bat as a lower order batsman or a tailender usually bats. yeah we tried Rohit as opener too.no harm in it.if it doesnt work then go back to lower order
