Rohit Sharma is sucking the momentum out of India

A country who has a reputation of playing some of the most attacking openers in the form of Sehwag' date=' Tendulkar, Ganguly in the past, Rohit Sharma just doesn't fit the style and approach of Indian Cricket[/quote'] Ganguly was very much in Rohit mold. Even Rohit is an attacking batsman, but attacking batsman does not mean, you will have high SR. Ganguly used to do the same hit boundaries and lot of dot balls. His SR of 73 is very much like Dravid who was termed as test player. What Rohit is going wrong he is not playing long innings after eating so many balls at low SR. Both Ganguly and Rohit has had strike rotating issues. Even after so many years, he has not addressed this issue. I want Pujara at opening.

Rohit should just go and play naturally forget all this keeping wickets in hand theoryt and go bat aggressively as it will help even if he gets quickfire 40 on these pitches than defending and getting out for 20s after consuming 40 balls.

Also his avway average was 10 points more than Rohit's away average. No comparison any which way. This guy is at best a lower middle order batsman where he can slog.

I know that. It worked for Ganguly then but wont work for Rohit now. We need some one can rotate strike while opening with Dhawan and Pujara has very good alround game for that. Rohit and Rahane struggle in this reagard more so as most of the fielders are inside the circle trying to stop singles and they lack the wrist game and usually play with straight bat and do not adjust their shots like Kohli and Pujara do.

The point in all this is that an Indian opener must have a strike rate of 70 plus as a bare minimum in the first 10 overs. That works out to about 4.2 runs per over. Add stuff like wides etc are your looking at a 45 runs in 10 overs. That imo is acceptable on todays pitches which are general pro batsman and the new rules which make the last 15 a powerplay. If Pujara can indeed have a strike rate of 70 plus in all conditions in the first 10 , rotate the strike well to give the more attacking Dhawan control and average more than 30 with the bat then plug him in. Crucially if Pujara can rotate the strike we will see Dhawan blossoming again. What happens when he plays with Rohit is that there are overs after overs that he does not get the strike. He is also forced to take bigger risks cause the selfish player at the other end sure as hell wont.
