virufan Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Need a proper batsmen at 8? Nope, Jadeja is good enough. I think it was Dhoni's plan to go after the bowling and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
JourneyMan Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I like the fact that we have one guy attacking, and he has 6 batsmen before him to accumulate runs. Can't wait until 6 wickets are down to start building the innings. Don't see why Jaddu is being made the scapegoat. Our middle order let us down.
maniac Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 Looks like the bowling success he has had has messed with his batting...in LOI format when he is in the team as a genuine allrounder he acts more responsibly with the bat and for some inexplicable reason he is treated as a genuine bowler in tests and plays like one,I mean there is only so many things a coach or a captain can tell you.

But if Jaddu perfects his attacking skills, he would be brilliant..
adi B Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 If he had that kind of shot selection he would have been a specialist batsman lol. He is not a proper batsman despite all these cameos. Let me put this way. He does not have the temperament of a batsman. of course he doesn't have the temperament to succeed as a batsman but he has to learn, improve and improvise the hard way i.e he can be booted if he doesn't perform with the bat as well
virufan Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 of course he doesn't have the temperament to succeed as a batsman but he has to learn' date='improve and improvise the hard way i.e he can be booted if he doesn't perform with the bat as well[/quote'] He is just in his 7th test. His temperament will only improve and also Dhoni had told him to go after the bowling. What should he do then?:hmmm:
kubrickian Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 He has tried to accumulate, rotate strike and respect bowling in the past but that has never worked for him. I dont mind this aggressive approach because he will score runs as long as he is at the crease, rather than play 50 balls and get out for 10 runs. With this approach, the mindset is not cluttered and tentative as to which balls he should play and which he should leave which has led to him getting out. He likes to play shots, so he is sticking to his strength. He has to be a bit more sensible and dont try for too many big shots if he already got a boundary (which will come with experience) but apart from that, he has to play his natural game which is attacking cricket.
maniac Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 I am not saying Jadeja was the mother of all evils for this loss....I have sympathised with him when he was made scapegoat for a few high profile losses in the past. I mean even if he would get out trying to go for a shot in the first ball he got strike of the next over that would have been O.k...I mean c'mon even in LOI's,when you get a boundary in an over, you try to take it easy or rotate the strike. He just hit a 6 there, that was totally uneccesary. Also we still needed 83 runs when he got out and had a day to get those runs.It was just common sense. Attacking and blind slogging are 2 different things
youngindia Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 it was out of the box thinking that got kiwis by surprise . but it should have done with Calculated risks.not by gambling...he got out because he was gambling someone needs to teach him these percentages. the execution was short by around 25 runs because they didn't understand the difference between calculated risks and gambling....
Crookbond Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 http://www.espncricinfo.com/new-zealand-v-india-2014/content/story/717643.html Brendon McCullum admitted that New Zealand were caught unawares by the counterattack, and was relieved his side had been able to break the stand soon. "They put a lot of pressure back on us when Jadeja came out to bat with Dhoni and they played a brand of cricket that I certainly didn't expect them to play at that point in time. That put us under a lot of pressure. Thankfully we absorbed that and through that tough situation."
express bowling Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I was really disappointed with the way Kohli got dismissed. Bad bad shot. Even before that , after tea, Kohli was playing flashy shots way outside off. He really needs to concentrate for longer periods in tests and play those loooong innings.
Scarves Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 He did well but he didn't stay in at all. Haddin I think did the perfect job of staying in yet counter-attacking. You try to score boundaries but rotating the strike and leaving the good balls is pinnacle. Jadeja just got a bit excited and went for too much, he'll learn.

Scarves Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 The big diff between had din and jadeja is had din has an defensive game to fall back on while jadeja is a slogger. That's something you can learn though FC level. You just need to practice on it, I mean all technical faults can be fixed to a certain degree.
brendan07 Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 The big diff between had din and jadeja is had din has an defensive game to fall back on while jadeja is a slogger. Also Haddin picks his areas. He doesn't slog every ball. Almost as if Jadeja thinks every ball should go for 4 or 6.
mancalledsting Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Unfortunately, I think because Jadeja felt he was batting with a tailender I.e. MS Dhoni who can't hack this level of cricket- he thought our only chance to win was through him being ultra aggressive. If there was A decent wk/batsmen at the other end- he probably would have played different
Sean Bradley Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Jadeja scored 3 triple centuries in first class cricket, the irony of it is how bad could our domestic bowlers be :banghead:
Midfielder Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 He made a mistake but taking it all out on him is not fair.
