I know it is imperative that top 6 has to make the bulk of the runs. But that doesn't mean we should not expect any runs from the tail. In recent times batting of tailenders have improved tremendous all over the world. They have saved tests even won tests. Even our own tailenders have done fabulous job http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/291354.html Look how Kumble added 58 runs for the last wicket with Ishant at the adelaide oval. Kumble made a valuable 42 on a very difficult pitch in West Indies. 40 runs for the last with one specialist batsman? Was it impossible? Not really. With better farming of strike India could have won it. We enter into a hopeless state once we lose our 6th wicket. Even in the 2nd innings kumble played out 52 balls. Tail can occasionally fold for low runs. But current tail looks like a dead cert failure everywhere. Atleast Bhuvan is a better bat. would have been more handy in the first test. Hope they work on their batting as well.

if we play a guy like bhuvi for instance in place of pishant,so we get a better bowler and a better batsman,the tail wont look that bad

irrespective of ishanths bowling , he wont throw his wicket unlike other sloggers .. bowlers need to get his wicket.. problem is our lower order batsmen should shield the tail properly which they r not doing ..

even in sydney we were 380 odd for 7 but bhajji along with sachin got us to 521..kumble and bhajji were reliable tailenders,even zak was decent..now it is sh1t!

Yeah, they really need to show some spine. We have 3 number 11s in the team right now. Bhuvi is a decent bat. If only his bowling was more effective..

Probably the worst tail in the world. Effectively starts with Dhoni. At the other extreme you have the Aus tail which bats all the way down. Makes you question what exactly the collection of unknown coaches does for their inflated pay cheques.

Had told this earlier as well in that Vijay thread that the lower order of ENGLAND/Newzealand/Proteas/Aussies make useful contributions down the order while ours are completely hopeless. Even today I understand that I can't blame Ishant but what was he trying to do what kind of shot he played ? Why don't they try to hang around not talking about this thread but in general why not try to guts it out make a fighting 20 or 30 and contribute to the team total.

really you are expecting number 10 and 11 to bat well ? we already have spinner who added 30 and 40 in both innings and zaheer who added 20 odd in both innings i think its not half bad effort by tail problem is lower middle order specially dhoni who is not good enough as a test match player in these conditions and rahane and rohit are just not consistent enough

The last 4 should be adding 100 runs on avg , I dont trust these guys to get 15...its the way they throw their wickets away is frustrating . Zaheer is the worst of all and as a senior sets a very bad example.

Terrible. They seem confused and clueless when they're batting. There doesn't seem to be any real effort, and you get the impression that they're just waiting to head back to the pavilion. At least if they were world class bowlers, we could have overlooked this, but unfortunately they aren't.

I think you should worry more about your bowlers ability to take wickets than their ability to score runs.
