Where is the competitiveness?

Listening to Post match presentation of Dhoni this was the question that came to my mind. He was joking about how McCulum can't score 300 in the IPL. Though it was replied in context, up until that question as well he didn't look surprised at the result. He sounded like he expected is thumping all along. This is the kind of expectation , prediction that you only see in cricket forums from amature cricket experts. Surprising to hear from an international captain. Atleast i expect things like "We are very disappointed to miss out on golden opportunity". I don't mind him giving credit to a great knock by McCullum. But it is high time he has to ask himself why he couldn't do the same in the last test. India was only like 40 runs away wihen 9th wicket fell. He constantly exposed Zaheer khan instead of farming the strike. What exactly that will push you hard to come out of your comfort zone as a team? For most teams a white wash is enough. FOr us threshold is very high. Even against local club teams when you lose it hurts. India had two golden chances in recent times to go for win. Sadly bad team selections let us down both times.

I think I am used to hearing Dhoni in such manner. He often speaks like this now that I can barely criticize him for speaking those lines which you mentioned. However, I will like to mention that it's not negative to just mention that we didn't bowl well or what has been the continuous problem with the team. This is what I want Dhoni to speak as it's getting terribly wrong every match by match for India. I want him to not just mention "Brandon paid us for the drop catch." but actually also mention that our bowlers weren't really consistent and we have ourselves to blame from not able to secure a win from where we were. He got to start being more bold then just what he shows of being one on the field.

Look, any man with the slightest shred of self-dignity would have quit the captaincy after 8-0. Doesn't matter who you are or how much power you have, ultimately there is a basic human decency and dignity that you expect from people. This man does not have any dignity whatsoever. We have been playing well but losing every single tests overseas. Great logic The core problems are still the same as they were in 2011. It's looking a tad better because we have found a couple of good young batsmen.

He's always been like that, even when we've won major tournies. Problem is it seemed all cool and nice when results were more in our favour than not but now with that over-seas record in last 4 tours... Something has got to give, either Dhoni has to change (if he's persisted with) or bring someone in who can shake things up. Just like we saw how our batting has improved after senior pros were pushed out. He's just out of ideas, sticking to the same wait n watch style of play.
